Raising Awareness for Adopting Pets

Tags: pets dog adoption
Recently, I went to a Dog adoption centre quite far from my house. Due to the rising awareness of pet adoption across the internet, I decided to check the place out. However, my mother has already informed me earlier on that I cannot adopt any dogs at this age. Well, I couldn't put the rap on her, since I have already owned a dog at home, and I live in a condominium which isn't really suitable to rear dogs. I thought that I can give a helping hand to the centre if needed for an hour or two, to accompany and play with those dogs.

Before reaching the place, I searched about this dog adoption centre online. What happened during the recent months is that they raised the adoption fees for dogs. The reason for them doing so, for what they have claimed is that, the number of stray dogs roaming around the streets, which were once Pets, has increased tremendously over the months. Although they face slight problems in their adoption centre, which is the lack of operational fees, they bring them back out of compassion and sympathy.

Upon arrival, the foul stench of the adoption centre greeted us. To be honest this was expected because they have tons of dogs there, whereby the waste are excreted all over the place. It's an el-fresco centre, with a few large cages, each containing approximately 15 to 20 dogs. According to my mother, the size of the compound got smaller over the past few years, mainly because of the insufficient fund. There are legitimately many cute and beautiful dogs like a big Husky with beautiful fur and glaring blue eyes. When I approached to the cages, all those dogs rushed to the entrance and strived to be the one licking me. Certainly because they wanted to be the one adopted, and they wanted the love and care from a human. After playing with them for an hour, I left, promising to come back in the near future.

The motive I wrote this blog isn't to introduce the place but to actually raise awareness for all those ditched pets. Like I've mentioned, the statistic of dogs on the streets is showing a rapid increase annually, and this negative social phenomenon shouldn't be ignored. Many stray dogs are sent to killed in the end because they would like to put a halt on the diseases spread by those dogs. Cruel right? It's the realistic truth.

Basically there are a few ways to prevent this to happen. First and foremost, if you own a pet, never ever ditch them once you're bored of them, once they don't follow your commands or even if you don't have the financial ability or energy to take care of them. Please do remind yourself about the initial aim why you bought the pet at the first place. You wanted to have someone accompany you, you think they are cute, so you bought them and showered them with full affection. You have the responsibility of taking care of a pet, a precious life. A quote about pets on the internet says, "To you, the pet may accompany you for few years, or even so a decade, but to the pet, you are its entire life." (Well, unless if it's a tortoise then it can live longer than you) So if you really don't think you are capable or have the heart to take care of them, don't even have the thought of buying them.

Secondly, try to adopt pets instead of buying a new pet from the pet store. As you adopt pets, you pay the centre adoption fees. This can definitely help them operate better and contain more pets inside their centres. Moreover, the expense of buying a pet in the pet store is way costly, normally costing more than a few thousands. Why not spend a few hundred dollars to adopt a pet and help the adoption centre at the same time? One stone two birds. However like I've said, if you don't think you have the ability to rear a pet, try to donate money or devote time to help the adoption centres. They need the funds for the pets' food, shelter, cleaning and even for medical purposes. It's never adequate because pets are coming in continuously, never-ending.

During some occasions, adoption centres hold events. Those events are practically for you to understand more about how they operate,  and also to accumulate more funds. If you have leisure, try to join in, learn more and even help out. You will enjoy thoroughly being surrounded by cheerful pets that long to be adopted. I hope that this message can be spread broader and that everyone can advise one another to adopt pets. Blessings be upon those who love animals. On behalf of all pets, I thank you all very much.
