Dancing With Miley

I have actually listened to Miley and followed her career since Hannah Montana.  Even with controversies over the years, the Music was pretty decent. I am Thrilled that she is broadening her musical horizons.  The amount of artists who can go from different genres, change their sound so fans don't get bored - that is pretty awesome for her.  However, I'm not overly thrilled with the latest works.  With "We Can't Stop", the singer decides to go more into a more ... creative turn.  The Song has been one of the biggest songs of the summer at this point.  However, I just can't get into it because of the controversy.

When you have to edit a song to such extent in order to be played on the radio - and still have controversy around it?  I mean c'mon.  On the Wikipedia page for "We Can't Stop" to find the specific lyrics and more information without going back to TMZ or People, it states, "There has been speculation that the songwriting has drug references." I would have never gotten that.  For one, cocaine in the line,  "Everyone's in line at the bathroom, Tryna get a line in the bathroom".  The second lyric includes "Dancing with Molly", a reference to ecstasy.  Originally when the song came out, the producers made it seem like it was actually "Dancing with Miley".  However, after much speculation Cyrus confirmed that it was indeed a reference to ecstasy.

Whether you find her a role model or not, she is in the public eye and actions taken are going to be scrutinized no matter what.  When a significant portion of your fan base has essentially seen you only as Hannah Montana and this positive influence to begin with, and most are still preteens - the most influential time in one's life, I have a problem.  Yes, you have been quoted with saying, "My job isn’t to tell your kids how to act or how not to act, because I’m still figuring that out for myself. So to take that away from me is a bit selfish. Your kids are going to make mistakes whether I do or not. That’s just life.”  However, these kids already look up to you.  Parents can't monitor what kids hear, do or say realistically.  What is not mentioned at home, go to school.  It's just an encouragement of these kids to sing about ecstasy and cocaine.  When it barely can meet radio-friendly standards. Maybe it's time to rethink the whole "image" trying to be portrayed or least try to clean-up the sound.  It's not actually hard to make music that can be played and notable!  For example, Carly Rae's "Call Me Maybe".

Being a young adult myself, I know the pressure to conform to society yet express myself individually.

You are trying to grow up.  But not everyone needs to do everything to grow up.  There are so many other stars before you that have been able to make the transition into a child to an adult.  Look at Hilary, Ashley and Aly.  Sometimes you don't need controversies to get people to take you seriously.  You don't need drugs,  you don't have to be drastic.  Like everyone, you just need to take the steps to evolve from a teenager to adulthood.
