Dinner by Heston Blumenthal

My Dad and I have been obsessed with Heston Blumenthal since we first laid eyes on his culinary masterpieces. We've seen almost every episode of Heston's Feasts and Heston week on Masterchef is hand-down our favourite. So for my Dad's birthday this year, it was only fitting that we dined at Dinners by Heston Blumenthal at Crown Casino.
From the get-go the waiters were our instant best friends. Paying close attention to detail and assisting us with our every question when it came to the menu. Luckily I'd made sure they catered for vegans and one of the waiters was more than happy to go through all the options for me. Of course no meal is complete without a bread starter, because who doesn't like bread. This one was damn good too.
Each menu had a fun fact about Britain wrapped around it. This was mine... yay whale vomit!
Soon came time for our entrees, which I didn't realise when ordering, but we basically got the same thing. Mine was just the vegan version. My Dad had the Hay Smoked Ocean Trout with pickled lemon salad, gentleman’s relish, wood sorrel and smoked roe. I had the same thing but veganised, so swap the trout for beetroot. My Dad looooved his, and although mine was also delicious, it was kind of just a lemony salad.
For mains I had Braised Celery with roast artichokes, cider apple & smoked walnuts and it was actually fantastic. I wasn't too sure about having celery for dinner. I'm vegan, not a rabbit, but with Heston's magic this was actually a delicious and filling dish! My Dad had the Roast Snapper in Cider with silverbeet leaves, roast onions & fired mussels.
Now for everyone's favourite course, dessert! I had the veganised version of Tarte of Strawberries with macerated strawberries, chamomile and strawberry sorbet. Probably the best sorbet I've ever had! My Dad had the Tipsy Cake with spit roast pineapple (see the first image) which takes 45 minutes to prepare!
Whilst we waited for coffees, one of the other guests was treated to this dry ice display with their dessert, so of course I took a quick snap. Who doesn't love dry ice?
With coffee we were given complimentary extra nibbles in the form of "the best chocolate mousse thing I've ever had" - quote my Dad, and blackberry sorbet.
Dining at Dinner by Heston Blumenthal was definitely something we HAD to try. Although I feel like I missed out slightly because I didn't get to eat complete dishes. Maybe one day Heston will introduce complete vegan dishes so we don't have to miss out on any elements. Yes Dinner by Heston Blumenthal is a bit more on the pricey side, but you should definitely try it at least once!
