Some Raps Need to be Smashed!

Voices in my head remain. Why wouldn't they? I step to the mic introduced as a Rapper, but I am not, nor do I look like one. I am an mc. I master the crowed. I demand the attention of the audience every time I am in front of them. I have worked tirelessly to be the best mc; late nights practicing lyrics, rapping for anyone who will listen, studying the skills of other mc's who have come before me (i.e. Common, KRS-One, Slick Rick, and many others). I take my craft seriously. I train to be a great mc. I study the art-form and respect it. So, when I step on a stage introduced as a rapper, something doesn't sit right with me. I'm not just a rapper. I can rap, mind you, but I am not simply a rapper. I am an MC. I am one who can entertain, motivate, inspire, and challenge. Rappers put words together. MC's stir your soul.
Rappers are confident in themselves. The crowd respects an MC.

So, yeah, I have voices in my head because most people look at rappers as the epitome of Hip-hop and they look at me as a rapper. Thus, I'm thinking these folks don't know what they are talking about or I mean thinking about or I mean what I perceive them to be thinking about. I look at them as if they are looking down at me, putting me in this lame rap category. Oh, he's just a rapper. Oh, that's cute, why don't we get him to rap for the kids. And yeah, I have voices in my head because most rappers look at themselves as if they are the greatest rappers alive and they look at me as a second rate rapper. They say I'm not lyrical enough I mean they think I'm not lyrical enough, I mean I think that they think I'm not lyrical enough.

I'm beginning to really dislike other rappers that think they are so good as they rap about violence, drugs, and abusing women amongst other things. I don't mind an ignorant person creating art that represents ignorance. I mean, I'm not a super genius here. I fall victim to ignorance and write songs reflecting that ignorance (heck, I have a hard time proofreading my monthly newsletters). But, a lot of these rappers out today are not ignorant. I would conclude that most aren't. They are intelligent and they know good and well that the majority of their art is dishonest at best. I can't stand these rappers. And if you are one of them I would like to smash you. I'm not talking about physically hurting you. I'm saying that I want your place. I want all the influence you have. The people that look up to you, I want them to look down, look back up and see me. I don't want another kid to think that drugs, casual sex, or violence are cool activities to get into because they saw or heard you make those things look fun. That's nonsense and that needs to be smashed.

Please take a moment to listen to my new single "Smash" which deals with all these issues.
If you like it, buy it!
