World Photo Day 2017

Today is World Photo Day! I missed the chance to acknowledge it last year, so I am happy to be able to do so this year.

Photography is very important to me, and to this website. I strive for the best photos I can take of the items in the permanent collection. I would like to remind everyone that when you are Viewing an exhibit, the pictures shown initially are just Medium-sized thumbnails. If you click on an image, that image will be brought up and the rest of the browser window blacked out. If you click on it again, it will be expanded to its full Resolution.

Full resolution was originally 400 x 600 pixels. I kept the resolution “low” because I was afraid of copyright violation, even with my watermark. Starting in February of 2015, with the Casper Inflatable Chair, I increased the resolution to 1,365 x 2,048 pixels to be more compatible with Apple’s Retina display technology. I still intend to go back through the early exhibits and post larger images. The images as they come off of my camera are 3,456 x 5,184 pixels, so I have plenty of resolution to work with.

You can tell you are viewing an exhibit if the web address (URL) starts with http://www.harveymercheum.com/exhibits/. If it starts with a date in the format “yyyy/mm/”, you are viewing a Mercheum Blog post.
