According to witnesses, the accident occurred around 9:00 AM on Alameda Avenue, outside of Disney Studios in Burbank. The suspect, who appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, ran a red light. Following the collision with the pedestrian, he struck several other nearby cars. Rescue personnel transported the victim to the hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead.
Police arrested the suspect, a 37-year-old Burbank resident, at the scene. Police also briefly detained a passenger in the suspect’s vehicle, but later released him.
According to court records, authorities are holding the suspect at the Los Angeles County Men’s Central Jail on a $801,000 bond. He will appear in court on October 4 for a preliminary hearing in the matter. He is also being held for a probation violation from an earlier arrest.
