13 Reasons Why You Should Travel Alone At Least Once

“Travel – the great liberator”

Ever thought about what is the best gift you can give yourself? It is Traveling alone! There are times when one needs to get to know oneself, think things through or get away from all the hustle-bustle of family and friends. It could be that you just need to Travel alone somewhere due to a reason, or that you won a gift, coupon or ticket for the self -for a short holiday!

It could be that you had all the right intentions of traveling with family or friends, but just couldn’t figure out and agree on a schedule suiting all. Whatever the reason, if you have not yet traveled alone anywhere, then please do yourself a favor and get going. Travel opens your eyes and mind, and when you do it alone, it is an experience to cherish for a lifetime!

Still not convinced? Well, here are 13 reasons you should travel alone, at the next possible chance:

1. You will find yourself

What can be better than finding a new you? Sometimes we do not realize our capability and may be limiting ourselves. When we travel alone, it brings about responsibility for self. We learn to look out for the self and act accordingly. When you travel with others, there is a sense of security. But when alone, you need to conquer that fear and march on.

It is often at such times that we find we are good at things like planning, budgeting, reaching out and making friends and making the most of the available resources. In short, you learn to be fully responsible for yourself and your actions. What’s more, you will realize that you are fully capable of doing many things all by yourself that you thought you couldn’t. It’s like finding a new you and you can also spare time for your passions like reading, humming, singing, dancing, photography or even writing.

2. You will love your freedom

Once you have traveled alone, you will certainly enjoy your freedom like nothing else! That incredible feeling of liberation is a great one to hang onto. The excitement with which you look forward to the trip, the trepidation that you have in mind, the joy you feel when you finally get going, are all worth it. The exhilaration that you feel when you go through the trip alone, seeing places, meeting people, doing things at your own pace, etc. is unparalleled.

You come back as a new, confident, bubbling person who is enthusiastic about life with rich and invigorating experience. That sense of freedom you get by traveling alone is just unexplainable.

3. It’s your choice

When you travel alone, you are the boss, and there is none that you have to answer to. The itinerary is decided by you, based on what you like to do and when. There is no question of doing something, especially something that you don’t want to, for the sake of others. You are the sole dictator of your time, and you can spend it as you see fit. And if all you want to do on a particular day is just to chill out, then you can do that as well.

4. You will meet new people

It is but natural that when you travel, you meet people and make new friends. When you travel alone, this is more so. You may also find like-minded people around you who are traveling alone and exchange notes. You will learn to talk to the locals and gather information and plan your trip well.

You would be able to figure out the ‘must see’ and ‘must eat’ places, and what those must do things are. The more people you talk to, the better you will feel. A word of caution though; you should also learn to pick the right people to talk and make friends as otherwise, it can get dangerous, especially if you are in a totally strange place. A very nice quote says “You never really travel alone; the world is full of friends waiting to get to know you”.
