Mata Chandrabadni Devi Temple History

The temple of Chandrabadni is very quite ancient of India. It is a Janshruti that Jagat Guru Shree Shankaracharya Ji had impressed by Shree Yantra and he had established the Chandrabadni Sidhapeeth in Srinagarpuram (Shringa), on the right side of the Alaknanda river at the Ramayanike Chandrakoot mountain range. which has also been the penance place of Shringi Rishi.

There is no idol of Chandrabani in the temple. Only Shree Yantra to be worshiped there. A large silver umbrella has been placed on this device engraved on a rock in Grabhgrah of the temple.

According to legend, Mata Chandrabadni Devi Temple is one out of 51 Shakti Peeth, the story of the origin of all these temples is the same. All these are connected with Lord Shiva and Shakti. According to the religious texts, the parts of the body of Goddess Sati fell down on all these places. It is said that Lord Shiva’s father-in-law had organized a yajna in which he did not call Lord Shiva and Sati. The reason for not calling them was that Sati’s father did not consider Shiva as equal to him.

Sati felt very bad because of not inviting in her father yagna. She went there without an invitation. When she went to his father’s house, where yagya was happening, Lord Shiva was insulted much, which Sati did not tolerate and jumped into the Havan Kund. When Lord Shiva came to know about this, then he went there and came back with the body of Sati, after which he started dancing the orgy (Tandav) Because of this, there was a stroke in the whole universe.

All deities were scared because this form of Lord Shiva could bring the doom on the earth. After this, all the Gods approached Lord Vishnu and requested him to divide the fragments of the body of Sati from your cycle and the body of Mata Sati went into 51 parts, the place where the body fell down became a power bench (Shaktipeeth). It is believed that Sati’s body fell on Chandrakoot mountain, hence the name was “Chandrabadni”. The body of Chandramukhi Devi Sati is famous as Chandrabadni. To take blessings of Maa Chandrabadni Devi, devotees come here from every corner of the country.

It is also said that Shiva had lost his consciousness after remembrance of Sati at this place due to Sati’s absence.  After which Goddess Sati had appeared before Lord Shiva in the form of Sheetal Chandra Roop, Seeing the Sati’s face, Lord Shankar’s grief was over and he became very happy. All the gods praise this form of great power and worshiped. Since then, Bhubaneswar Sapadpith has become famous as the name of Tirtha Chandrabhadini. It is said that even today, Gandharva Angels does dancing and singing at the Chandrakoot mountain in the night in the temple of Mata Chandrabadni.

According to the legend of Mahabharata, Ashwaththama was thrown at Chandrakoot mountain. It is believed that Chiranjiv Ashvatthama still wanders in the Himalayas.
