Recent Google Updates and SEO Guidelines For July 2018

It has been a busy month for Google. There are some major updates in Google Advertising community, as well as few SEO factors in Search Engine Optimization community:

Google retires DoubleClick, AdWords brand names

After more than two decades, Google has decided to retire Adwords and DoubleClick brands.

In order to simply the branding, Google Adwords is now Google Ads. As well as the interface, it will be simplified using AI technology.

Tools that Google ads buyers are using will be called Google Marketing platform, and the one that Google ads sellers are using will be called Google Ads Manager.

Chrome browser will mark http sites as “not secure”

Beginning of July 2018, Chrome Browser will mark any website that is not in https as “not secure”. After years of encouraging website owners to convert non http to https and even with incentive of SEO benefits, Google is now taking a major step to mark all non secure website as “non secure” in Chrome browser. It is just a matter of time, other browsers will follow the suit.

 Website speed is officially a ranking factor

This time, the speed update will only impact any website that is slow on mobile.

Beginning in July 9, 2018, which is today, Google is rolling out the speed update algorithm that will likely impact search ranking on all slow websites.

Google Expanding Local Conversion Report

With the simplification, Google Ads will be able to allow marketers to see “offline” conversions, as well as in person visit to a store.
