Reese Callaway has been acknowledge on this blog on more than one occasion, none of them being a moment of pride for Reese but nevertheless...

As of now, Callaway remains the sole +General Motors authorized aftermarket supplier of performance oriented customization.   Typically, the gig good ole Reese scored involves hacking out a HUUUGE hole in the C7 Corvette hood and sticking the "proprietary" supercharger through it, affixing a few interior and exterior increased hp advertising plaques and of course, replacing CORVETTE script with his own CALLAWAY name which incidentally has the exact same number of letters as CORVETTE name (what the fuck Reese, have you ever realized this part?)

For 2017, there is a new offering from Callaway: a $15k hatch assembly replacement, turning the already not so svelte C7 aerodynamic and aesthetic abomination, Corvette C7 into a station wagon simulation.  By any account, paying 15 grand for a different hatch is a shitload of money, especially when the change results in murdering whatever there might have been positive in the original exterior design.

The idea of a sporty gentleman's express, called a shooting brake is not a new one, a relatively low profile version of already sporty base coupe design to both improve aerodynamics and add a touch of practicality to otherwise impractical car.  Even though there is Ferrari FF serving as the latest example of this niche line, the last time shooting brake succeeded in looking better while being practical took place in 1968, with Volvo P1800ES, in 1972.  However, both Ferrari and Volvo were conceived as real car designs, maximizing the rear quarter area through a volume increase oriented design of sheetmetal, from the A-pillars backt

Of course, this is not the case with the hatch upgrayedd offered by Callaway, it is exactly just a hatch replacement (with the matching "halo"), taking advantage of station design only within the area originally occupied by the OEM hatch.  Now, had Reese included redesigned quarter panels in the station wagon design, put some curves to match the roof, maybe this whole thing would not looking like a complete piece of shit but... since this is Reese, extensive modifications would involve spending some money well beyond the costs of that shooting brake hatch.    The result is of course truly awful, with a shape resembling a coffin stuffed on top of the original quarter panels, making that bullshit station wagon area very narrow and thus, not offering any significant volume gains.

Will someone actually spend 15 grand on this Corvette take on pick up truck camper shell (this is what the whole thing really amounts to)?  Since there is a moron born every second and majority of them among Corvette owners, there will be a few...  In the meantime, here is the photo of Callaway latest creation and one that manages to look like a proverbial shit, even worse than the piece of road kill Reese wears on his head.
