- TalkBack is pre-installed on most Android devices. If you don't already have TalkBack, download the app on Google Play.
- To enable TalkBack, go to Settings, then Accessibility, then TalkBack.
- Slide the TalkBack switch to the 'on' position and you're ready to go.
2. Use adapted switches
Switch access helps users with motor impairments control their Android devices.
- To configure switch access, go to Settings, then Accessibility, then Switch Access. Slide Switch Access to the 'on' position. Connect your switch or switches to your Android device and enable the on-screen keyboard.
3. Manage your color settings for easier reading
Use Android’s color settings to reverse colors on the screen, make white text easier to read, or adapt colors for color blind users.
- All color settings are available under Settings, then Accessibility
- To enable high contrast text, switch to the 'on' position.
- To enable color inversion, switch to the 'on' position.
- To enable color correction, turn on 'Color correction' with a tap. Then choose a color correction mode and switch to the 'on' position.
4. Zoom in and increase text size
Use large text to increase your text size and use magnification gestures to magnify what's on your screen.
- For large text, go to Settings, then Accessibility, then Large Text.
- Slide to 'on'. For magnification gestures, go to Settings, then Accessibility, then Magnification gestures. Slide the Magnification gestures switch to 'on.'
5. Use YouTube captions
Turn on YouTube video captions.
- To turn on YouTube Captions, go to Settings, then Accessibility, then Captions.
- Click on Captions and slide the Captions switch to the 'on' position.
6. Connect a refreshable braille display to your Android device
Use BrailleBack on Android to navigate your device, read what's on your screen, and input text with your braille keyboard.
- First, make sure your device supports BrailleBack. Then download the BrailleBack app on Google Play.
- To enable BrailleBack, go to Settings, then Accessibility, then BrailleBack.
- Slide the BrailleBack switch to the 'on' position.
- Next, go back to Settings
- Slide the Bluetooth switch to the 'on' position, if it's not on already.
8. Edit documents with a screen reader
Use screen reader support for Google Docs editors
- Turn on screen reader support for Docs editors by visiting your Google Account settings.
- Visit Accessibility settings. Then select Accessibility settings.
- Set the screen reader preference to 'on'.
