Lakeith Stanfield has signed on to star in the Film adaptation of the popular memoir, Notes From A Young Black Chef. Alongside Stanfield, A24 has elected to finance the film and Randy McKinnon will write the script. Behind the camera, Stephen “Dr” Love will produce the film with Colin Stark stepping in as the executive producer.

Notes From A Young Chef tells the story of Nigerian-American Chef Kwame Onwuachi. The talented chef began in Bronx as a young Black man navigating the city of dreams. As his life progressed, he challenged himself to overcome the obstacles that faced him in a predominately white field. Over time, he appeared in Top Chef, financed his first catering business and much more. He also overcame the setback of seeing his first restaurant close in just eleven weeks.

Onwuachi wrote Notes From A Young Black Chef alongside Joshua David Stein. Questlove wrote, “Kwame Onwuachi’s story shines a light on food and culture not just in American restaurants or African American communities but around the world. Recently, Knopf acquired the publishing rights for the novel and the film rights were acquired shortly thereafter.

No director or release date for the film has been determined yet.
