Def Pen’s 2019 Comic-Con Studio Preview: Marvel Studios

Marvel Studios took the year off from Comic-Con last year after Thanos’ snap-heard-round-the-universe left our heroes splinter across the valley. Fast forward a year (or five, in the case of Endgame) and Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige says they’re ready to pull back the curtain on Phase 4 and beyond this year. Which is nice because we know next to nothing about the future of the MCU. About all we do know for sure are the release dates of their next several films.

In all fairness, we do know of a couple of sequels and prequels that are currently in development. First up on most everyone’s list is Black Panther 2, so I’d expect to see more from that film first. We know director Ryan Coogler and most of the cast is returning but hopefully, the Marvel Panel will reveal a bit more about the plot or even the title. Two other films we know about but don’t really know about are Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Black Widow. Beyond that, there’s The Eternals, which we actually know much more about. It will follow the titular race of immortal beings who created ancient superhumans and ruled over Earth in a bygone era. Angelina Jolie, Kumail Nanjiani, Richard Madden, and Dong-seok Ma.

Outside of those four films, all we have is hearsay and rumors. Some of those rumors carry a little more weight than others. For example, Kevin Feige is on the record multiple times over the last decade saying he wants a Nova Corps movie in the MCU. So, when rumors of a Nova movie in development began circulating last month just about everyone took them as true. And plus, with Xandar destroyed before Infinity War, it’d make a lot of sense for a Nova officer to show up with more than a few questions for the Avengers. There are also rumors of a Shang-Chi movie in development so, while I’m not sure we’ll get a ton of info this year but, I’d at least expect an announcement of some sort. I also think there will be at least one big surprise from Marvel, maybe a Young Avengers movie or series? And we can’t forget about those Fox characters Disney acquired. I don’t think we’ll hear anything about the Fantastic Four or X-Men quite yet, honestly. But, there is a certain Merc with a Mouth who’s been suspiciously quiet since the release of his last movie…
