Veeram, Yennai Arindhaal, Vedalam: Here’s looking at Ajith Kumar’s previous films before Vivegam releases tomorrow

Only one day to go for Ajith Kumar‘s Vivegam! The Tamil actioner is one of  the most awaited films of 2017. Thsi time, Ajith has taken on the role of an international spy who fights corruption within his inner circle. Starring alongside Ajith is Kajal Aggarwal, Akshara Haasan and Vivek Oberoi. Ever since the advance booking opened for Vivegam, tickets have been getting sold at lightning speed. The Film is all set to be shown in 3000 theaters across the world. Trade analysts are predicting a historical Day 1 record at the BO. Veeram, 2015

Director: Siva

Cast: Ajith Kumar, Tamannaah Bhatia, Nassa, Santhanam, Vidharth, Bala

Synopsis: The film is about an ordinary yet powerful man who lives with four of his siblings. As the siblings are looking to marry their partners, they play match makers set up their brother with a girl. But his violent past comes in the way. How he gets past this obstacle and wins over the girl he loves forms rest of the story.

Reception: While it was a termed a typical hardcore, masala film, the movie opened to more or less positive reviews. Ajith’s massy hero act won him huge praise from fans.

Box office collections: In 2014 when Ajith’s Veeram released, it clashed with Vijay’s Jilla. Despite this heavy clash, the film managed to rake in Rs 34.5 crore at the BO worldwide, as for collecitons from India amounted to Rs 46 crore, more than Vijay’s Jilla!

Yennai Arindhaal, 2015

Director: Gautham Menon

Cast: Ajith Kumar, Trisha Krishnan, Anushka Shetty

Synopsis: The film was last of the police film series that began with Khakha Khakha starring Surya. The film follows life of a sincere police officer – Sathyadeva from age 13 to 38. The police officer gets a whiff of a organ trafficking gang and tries to stop it. But there’s a tragic connection between the gang leader and Sathaydeva’s past that the officer isn’t aware.  Does he come to know of  the connection? Does the gang get arrested? Thta’s what the rest of the story reveals.

Reception: The film received positive reactions from fans although some claimed Khakha Khakha and the other films of this series were better. Ajith was lauded for his act in the film. Critics were all prasies for the ‘underlying emotional current’ in this hardcore police actioner.

Box office collections: While many reports claimed the film had earned Rs 100 crores, a few others were challenging this figure. According to IBT, the film manged to rake in Rs 87 crore approx. at the end of 18 days. Within 5 days, the film may have raked in Rs 5-7 crore making the total Rs 92 crore. Thus, the film may ahve not have crossed the Rs 100 crore club after all.

Vedhalam, 2017 

Siva 

Cast: Ajith Kumar, Shruti Haasan

Synopsis: The film is about Ganesh, an oridnary taxi driver who helps the police nab three criminals. The gang in turn tries to take revenge on Ganesh for turning them in and that’s when his past comes to forefront and eveyrthing changes.

Reception: Critics called it a typical entertainer tailor made for Ajith fans. The film received more or less psotive reviews for its high masala quotient.

Box office collection: The film went on to become the biggest hit of Diwali 2015. The film raked in Rs 125.7 crore at the box office worldwide. The film fared phenomenally overseas. Ajith’s film went on to break several records.

If you look at it, his last three movies have opened to positive reviews and fared well at the box office even. Will Ajith Kumar’s winning streak continue with Vivegam? Let’s find out tomorrow!
