2016 saw all kinds of films. In the first half, there was Vijay’s super hit action drama Theri , before that Oopiri, the entertaining rom-com starring Karthi, Tamannaah and Nagarjuna fared phenomenally at the box office, Samantha’s solo romantic hit AAa struck gold too. Mahesh Babu also had his first flop with Brahmotsavam, even Pawan Kalyan’s Sardar Gabbar Singh bombed at the BO. But it seemed like the first half was only setting the pace for an intense, super second half. Rajinikanth’s Kabali marked Rajiniaknth’s epic comeback after two not so great releases, there was Siva Karthikeyan’s Remo, Jr NTR’s Janatha Garage, Karthi’s Kaashmora and of course Dhanush’s Kodi. This year won’t be complete without the mention of Mohanlal’s three hits – Oppam, Janatha Garage and Pulimurugan. There was Tamannaah’s Bhatia’s unexpected hit with Devi, Naga Chaitanya’s Premam remake that surprisingly fared well at the box office. What a year it has been! But as 2016  comes to an end, we have so much to look forward to in the coming year. Here’s the long list. Do tell us which Movie are you looking forward to the most in 2017?

Bairavaa – Vijay‘s 60 film is all set for a Pongal release.  Without a doubt, 2017 will begin with a bang! So far, the makers have only released the teaser which by the way crossed 10 million views (and counting) on YouTube. It highlights Vijay’s mass avatar like never before with power packed dialogues. The action packed drama also stars Keerthy Suresh. The movie will see them as a pair for the first time. Khaidi no 150 – This film marks the comeback of Chiranjeevi, the megastar to the big screen after an eight year gap. It is the Telugu remake of Tamil movie Kaththi. It will star Chiranjeevi in a double role. What a doubly awesome comeback. The film is being produced by his son, Ram Charan. Also for the first time, Chiranjeevi and Kajal are teaming up. Initially, fans were wondering how this pairing would turn out, but a recent pic of the two from their sets in Croatia erased all doubts. Gautamiputra Satakarni – We have another veteran actor making his comeback to the big screen – Nandamuri Balakrishna.  The film is based on the life of a 2nd Century ruler. The film also stars Shriya Saran and Hema Malini. The film is directed by award winning director Krish. This historical biography, that also marks the actor’s 100th film is set for a Pongal release too. Enai Noki Paayum Thota – This project marks the first collaboration of Gautham-Dhanush. It’s love story that includes hardcore elements of action. The first look was out recently and it showed varied shades of Dhanush. The two striking avatars were more impressive than Kodi. The movie also stars Megha Akash. This actioner romance is set for a February 2017 release.

Ghazi – Before Baahubali, we will see Rana Daggubati in this first of its kind submarine based war film. It’s based on true events that happened in 1971, before the war broke out in India. Rana Daggubati will be playing a Captain  while Taapsee Pannu will be playing a refugee. It is a bilingual film that will release in Telugu and Hindi and be dubbed in Tamil. The movie stars Taapsee Pannu, Kay Kay Menon, Atul Kulkarni. The film is set to release on 24th February, 2017.

Winner – In this film, Sai Dharam Tej plays a fashion designer, while Rakul Preet Singh plays an athlete. The story revolves around a guy who wants to win over his father and woo the girl he likes. The movie is set for a release on February 24, 2017. Does that mean, Ghazi and Winner will be clashing at the BO?

Kaatru Veliyidai – Mani Ratnam is back! with yet another love story that stars Aditi Rao Hydari and Karthi together for the first time. Karthi plays a pilot in this movie. The first look was out recently and it was too cute! Nothing further about the plot has been revealed, but the movie is set for a March 2017 release.

Baahubali  2 – Undoubtedly, one of the most awaited releases. It is the sequel to Baahubali: The Beginning. We will finally know why Katappa Killed Baahubali. From what reports have stated, this movie will be bigger, grander in terms of architecture and visuals. The historical drama stars Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Tamannaah Bhatia, Anushka Shetty. The film is set to release on April 28, 2017.

Katamarayudu – Certain reports state this Pawan Kalyan starrer is the remake of Veeram , while some reports state, it’s the remake of Vedhalam. It’s action drama that stars the power star and Shruti Haasan. The first look was highly appreciated when it came out during Diwali.

2.0 – After Baahubali this is easily the second most awaited film. While some elements form Enthiran – The robot will reprise itself in this film, the storyline is completely new. Apart from Rajinikanth, the movie also stars Akshay Kumar, Amy Jackson. In fact, this film will mark Akshay’s debut in the Tamil Industry. The first look launch was held at a grand event in Mumbai and was a complete success. The movie is set for a Diwali release next year.

Thala 57 – Although the film remains untitled, and no look has been out, it’s one of the most anticipated releases of 2017. Ajith Kumar will playing an Interpol office. The film also stars Kajal Aggarwal and Akshara Haasan. The film has been shot in international locales so expect some slick action sequences set across scenic backgrounds. The movie is set for release around May 2017.

Mahesh 23 – Mahesh’s next is hi-fi action film with AR Murugadoss. According to reports, it’s an upgraded version of Vijay’s Thuppaki. The movie stars Rakul Preet Singh. She will seen opposite Mahesh Babu for the first time. The first look of this movie is to be out in Jan 2017. The makers are reportedly looking at a Summer 2017 release.
