Whitney Houston dead at 48

Now this has nothing to do with tech.  It’s more of a Personal omg.  Growing up this talented singer was highly regarded in my community but for the last few years Drugs and personal problems relegated this legendary songstress to punch line status.  The news today on the eve of this years Grammy awards that one of music’s brightest stars has passed is truly shocking.  In an age of Ke$ha and GaGa’s, a talent like Whitney can truly be appreciated in the form of a back catalog.  She burst onto the scene in 80’s amidst a talent rich musical scene.  She was in a class all to herself.  In the 90’s she solidified her standing with “I will always love you”,  a take on a Dolly Parton song, which was featured on the hit movie “The Bodyguard” which co-starred a pre-waterworld Kevin Costner.  He rocky marriage to New Edition bad boy Bobby Brown and battles with drugs overshadowed her  talent.  One famous comedian once said, “Whitney Houston smoked her kneecaps off.”  Unfortunately assuming that her untimely death was due to drugs would be premature as a cause of death has not been given at the time this was published.  Houston seemed to be bred for greatness.  He mother was the great singer CiCi Houston.  Her cousin was Dione Worwick.  Her godmother was the queen of soul herself Aretha Franklin.  Although we can’t be for sure yet if drugs and alcohol killed the woman, we can be sure that it cut short her career. May she find comfort.
