Camgirls and others in the adult industry are faced with the task of building a following online.  Buying Facebook Likes and Twitter followers is one way (albeit a controversial one) to do so.  There are pros and cons to this method and this article covers some of them.

PRO: Having an instant large or artificially inflated number of likes and followers can give the perception of success, and make others both see you as an established influencer and be more apt listen to what you have to say as a result.

CON: The accounts used for these services are normally fake accounts that are inactive, and if someone checks to see who actually follows you (which is normally not hard to do) they will see this.

PRO: Everyone loves a party and when there are already a ton of people there it’s a more attractive party to join! You’ll most likely gain more likes and follows  if you do this.

CON: Your engagement on your posts is going to be disproportionately low. You’ll have a ton of followers but very little likes, comments, shares, retweets, etc., because most of these accounts aren’t manned by anyone.

PRO: It saves you time. Growing an audience organically TAKES TIME, and work, and content. Buying your following cuts out some of that time.

CON: You’re basically being handed something that you did not earn, so you won’t value it as much.

MY TAKE…

I have not ever used these services where you can buy Facebook Likes, Twitter/Instragram or YouTube followers personally.  The most similar thing I’ve done is run an ad campaign on Facebook where I paid for followers, but they were real people.  The downside of this was in order to get really cheap likes I went to the countries where those likes were cheap, so I ended up with a lot of foreign followers who weren’t really interested in what it was that I had to offer (it was a non-adult page).

So I get it…

But ultimately I think it’s a better long term plan as a camgirl, adult star, adult promoter to build up your following organically, because that’s where your paying customers are going to come from, not a bunch of sock/fake accounts. You’ll also gain more experience and credibility that way.
