Marcos Hernandez makes a lot of process-oriented abstraction. The material he uses becomes the important aspect of his form and content. Much of the process abstract has become about the material and the use of material which attempts to disengage with the old abstraction aims of reaching spiritual or transcendent experience. Hernandez focuses on the material as a process but also the underpinning is we live in a material world with material concerns. Hernandez's conceptual work still holds to a kind of narrative illustrated in his text piece. I can easily image watching him carve out the drywall, layer by layer.
