Effi

Hi again,

let’s continue where I left off last time.

shall we?

let’s go.

You know those people who you just have an instant connection with. Those people with whom you might have met for the first time but still, it feels like you have known them your whole life. The ones whom you can be yourself with without any fear of judgment.

This first part is about those people in my life. Two of the best people I have ever met.

It all started five years back.

It was the first day of my college. I was quite nervous, as any sane person should be, yet there was an excitement too.

The first class was ok. The second was alright too. But it was the third one when things got interesting. It was of Economics. Our Economics professor’s name was Sloan Sabbith. She had a charisma hard to explain in words. She had a perspective different than the society.

She believed in a Greater Fool. She often told us that the society was made up by the greater fools. And for those who do not know what a greater fool is. A greater fool is someone who believes that against all odds, where everyone else have failed, they might succeed and they keep trying until they do. A greater fool is a person who isn’t afraid to dream big and to achieve big.

In our first lecture, she asked everyone about why they opted for economics. Most answers were almost same including mine changed only by jumbling of few words here and there, quite forgettable. But there was this girl, Effi, She had a different reason. I could never forget her words, probably because of the impact they had on me. When everyone was talking about wanting to be successful and earning lots of money in the economics field, she just wanted to help others. She didn’t want money or fame through it, all she wanted was the world to be a better place and economics was probably the main field which runs this world, she hoped that she could bring a change in the economy. She wasn’t anti-capitalist or anything at all, in fact, she promoted capitalism because she was a realist too, and she knew the world won’t work without capitalism. But she wanted that the people who do gain from the economy shall give a little portion of it back, not as a charity or anything but as a helping platform as in an investment for people who don’t have resources but wants to do something in their life. And all she wanted to do was that.

And to all this, our professor only said one thing to her. “I believe we have a greater fool amongst us too.” She said.

“I hope, I am” Effi replied.

And the bell rang.

I went to Effi and asked whether she really meant what she said.

She did.

I asked her if she wanted to go grab something to eat.

“Sure, let’s go.” she replied.

“what do you wanna eat?

Pizza?” I asked.

“Ooh, ooh let’s have a pizza.” She said with a child-like excitement.

And so we did.

We went to the nearest cafe and had a pizza.

She told me what she wanted to do, about why she choose this college and some other stuff, and I told her a bit about myself. After that, she took me to the city’s hilltop. We sat there for some time admiring the beauty of the world we lived in. Then she played some old song, I kinda don’t remember the name of, and started dancing.

And I knew at that moment that She was a free spirit too wild to be tamed by the world. I wished that she never changes.

After she got tired, we went to our dorm, Walking silently. Peacefully.

And this was how I first met one of the best people in my life.

Other parts, another day.

Adios.
