Background
According to the author, he was taken a prize of access to the White House by Trump, because he liked an article that Wolff wrote about him in June 2016 for The Hollywood Reporter when he approached Donald Trump to write a Book about his presidency. However, Trump later claimed that he had never authorized Wolff's access and had never told him about the book.

As of mid-2016, Wolff interviewed the campaign and transition staff. For conducting research for his book through interviews and as an observer of "flying on the wall", Wolff was allowed access to the west wing of the White House, after the inauguration of Trump and for most of the first year of his presidency, . He said he conducted more than 200 interviews with Trump and his associates, including senior staff, and was allowed to witness events at the White House without his presence being administered. This allowed Wolff to be present on the day of James Comey's dismissal. According to reports, Wolff recorded some of the conversations mentioned in the book. The working title for Wolff's book was The Great Transition: The First 100 Days of the Trump Administration, which led many in the White House to believe that the book he was writing would be favorable to the Trump administration.

Never before in history had a presidency so divided among the American people. Furthermore, Fire and Fury shows us how and why Donald Trump has become the king of discord and disunity in brilliantly informed and amazingly fresh, .

Review
# 1 New York Times Bestseller

"What makes Fire and Fury important is that it's not just about Trump, it's about a product of the same culture that Trump produced: it's 'reality' journalism, just as Trump is a 'reality' character '" -The Atlantic

"It's not a book, it's the book, if there's only one book that Washington's political journalists will read this year ... then that's it ... [Wolff] is an evil stylist and a great observer, with a fair reputation gained by approaching his subjects with bare fangs and sharp claws ... A perfect karmic delivery system. "- The Weekly Standard

"The pages of Wolff's book are riddled with insults and intrigues, stabbings in the back and dysfunction." - The Washington Post

"Wolff's enduring accomplishments here are not his revelations that make the headlines, but the skillful, captivating and absolutely terrifying way that describes the unskilled, unsuspecting and unusual characters who are roaming the halls of the White House in the first half of 2017 as well as their close conflicts at blood level ". - Entertainment Weekly

"What makes the book meaningful is its sly and hilarious portrait of a hollow man, in the black hole whose greedy and needy ego, the whole world has practically disappeared." - The Guardian

"Essential reading." - Michael D'Antonio, author of Never enough: Donald Trump and the search for success, CNN.com

"Fire and Fury is in fact a significant achievement, which deserves much of the attention it has received." - The Economist
