Khaar: This ZEE5 Original Will Blow Your Mind By Revealing Lesser-Known Facts About Freedom Struggle

There is always another side of history that gets blurred by what is known to us and is continually reiterated in our minds!

ZEE5 paid real tribute to the Father of our Nation, Mahatma Gandhi when the digital platform, ZEE5,  released an eye-opening docudrama on Oct. 2. “Khaar: The Other Side Of History” and it is something that each one of us should watch to truly understand the ‘Father Of our Nation’ and his priceless contribution in Indian Freedom Struggle.

Khaar is a ZEE5 original and is available in Kannada, Malayalam, Telegu, Marathi, and Bengali, apart from Hindi. The docudrama is directed by renowned director Suhail Tatari and stars Sanjay Gurbaxani, Amit Singh Thakur and Surendra Rajan in the lead role.

Plot

The movie touches upon how Mahatma Gandhi single-handedly, without any support from Indian National Congress or any other major leader of the time, led the Dandi March that eventually changed the course of the freedom movement.

The movie also shows how what started as a simple step turned out to be a mass movement that brought Gandhi as well as Indian Freedom Struggle in the forefront globally.

The movie shows the how’s and why’s of Dandi March and is sprinkled throughout with magnificent and sometimes unbelievable details of the movement. Like, did you know that Gandhi Ji was abandoned by the Indian National Congress during the conception of Dandi March and was actually alone in the final days of struggle for our freedom?

Review

Although we have been fed by numerous movies about the Indian freedom struggle since our childhood, there is something about this ZEE5 original that will shake you to the core. Be it the fascinating narration done by Annu Kapoor, or be it teeny-tiny yet mind-blowing details or significant turn-of-events that no one told us before or be it the original footage of those times- the movie will definitely take you back in time and you will feel as if the events are unfolding in front of your eyes.

The best part here is that the movie is free of unnecessary melodrama, long speeches and is to-the-point. The direction and screenplay are definitely seamless and keeps you on the hook as you can relate to those struggling times.

The visuals of the movie are spectacular. The hair-raising footages of Dandi March, as well as those of Indians being beaten mercilessly by British soldiers, will definitely give you the chills.

The cast of the movie too is just spot on. And with Tatari’s direction, you can feel the unrest, the struggle and the suppression prevailing in the country during those times, which our generation has started to forget.

The docudrama also covers the concept of non-violence very beautifully through valuable insights of history experts, like Mr K. Natwar Singh and Prof. Mridula Mukherjee, among others. This practice once again needs to be revived and inculcated in the present times when everyone is becoming intolerant and violence is rampant.

So, take out just half-hour from your busy schedules and have a peek into history to know exactly what people have undergone to give us our present times. Watch Khaar on ZEE5 (and also show it to your friends, family and kids) and be ready to be amazed!
