It’s “G.O.OD Season” for South African rapper, AKA, as unleashed his third studio Album “Touch My Blood”. The album is Trending in SA, and indeed all over Africa. The album which was released under his Beam Group imprint is his first album as an independent artiste. And well, it’s getting a whole lot of buzz.
But one thing you notice is that some of the songs on the project have been released earlier. They include January’s “Sweet Fire”, “Fully In”, “Beyonce” and “Amen”, out of the 16 tracks making up the album.
It is also clear that this is not a rap album. It’s just AKA trying to explore other sounds and push his stock to the pop market.
According to a new tweet from the rapper, a lot of people tried to diss him back in January, when he dropped the single “Sweet Fire”. But now, the story is different as the song is one of the biggest fan favorites at shows. He ended the tweet with a piece of advice for everybody;
“Point I’m trying to make is… trust your gut”
“Sweet Fire” is a pop song that samples the EDM sound. EDM is popular in the UK and it is beginning to infiltrate the Afrobeat sound. It sounds very much like his 2015 hit “One Time”.
Right now it’s super season for AKA, as all 16 tracks from his album are on SA iTunes Top 50 hip hop/rap chart, with 3 in the Top 10.
A couple of big albums have dropped after AKA’s Touch My Blood, especially Nas “Nasir”. Jay Rock also has a new album. But all that doesn’t seem to affect Touch My Blood, in anyway.
