Best Adjustable Dumbbells: Bowflex SelectTech 552

Bowflex SelectTech 552 Adjustable Dumbbells

This article is a review of the Bowflex SelectTech 552 Adjustable Dumbbells and it’s comparable value to other adjustable dumbbells or joining a gym. We touch base on space management for those living in tight quarters and the interlocking design.

I have to be honest, while I’ve wanted to get in shape for several years now, I’ve always hated the gym. It just always seemed like such a massive waste of money and source of potentially awkward encounters, not to mention where I live it’s about a 20min drive even on the best of days. That’s not something that I particularly wanted to bother with, so I didn’t. Yet, the older I got the less time I have to spend playing pickup sports on the weekends or after work. I needed

Having been in the market for home fitness equipment for some time, I had started to lose hope that I would find something worth investing my time and money into. A buddy of mine sent me the link for these adjustable dumbbells though, and I decided to take a chance on them. I’ll be frank; I’m glad that I did.

These dumbbells don’t take up an inordinate amount of space in my apartment. I love that I can adjust these to the exact weight range that I plan on working with that day, and that they all fit together for easy storage. I don’t know about you, but I don’t have room for a massive weight lifting set in my apartment. I’d have to remove my furniture for even so much of a prayer of storing all the equipment that comes with other sets. I can store these dumbbells in my hallway closet. There’s just no comparison in that regard.

I like that the dials enable me to easily set the weight that I want to work with. It makes it effortless to switch between exercises. When you live on a tight schedule like I do, the ability to save even small amounts of time in your workout routine is invaluable. They’re supposedly good for up to thirty different exercises. It’s like having all the benefits of a full weight set without the space drawbacks or the prohibitive cost. I really can’t get over how economical and compact the design of these is.

The great thing about these is that you can adjust the weight as you become used to your exercises. It makes the process of plateauing happen so much slower than it would otherwise. I’ve only owned these dumbbells for about three months, and I’ve already noticed changes in my physique and overall health. My arms and core have more definition than they used to, and I’ve lost almost twenty pounds. I’m amazed. Obviously, these changes can largely be credited to changing my diet as well, but it’s undeniable that the exercises these dumbbells have allowed me to do played a contributing role. The instructional video that came with these dumbbells was enormously helpful too; learning proper form when doing your reps not only helps you to do them safely, but it helps you to get results faster than you may have otherwise.

I find it kind of funny that I’ve not only spent less money than my gym-going friends, but I’ve seen better results as well. Don’t get me wrong; there are advantages to the variety offered by the gym and the benefits of the trainers that work there. But there really is something to be said for having your own compact dumbbell set that you can use in total privacy and at your pace. Once you commit to getting fit, nothing should stand in your way. I truly feel like buying this set enabled me to get started on my fitness journey in a way that spending, even more, money on a gym membership never would have been able to.

The only complaint that I have, and it’s a minor one, is that it can be a bit difficult to get the dumbbells back on their stand after using them. You have to put them back on an exact angle, and there is a learning curve when it comes to doing so. They also can’t take an awful lot of punishment, but with that being said, you don’t really want to be dropping a heavy dumbbell on the floor in your apartment anyway. Overall, these things are fantastic, and I can’t help but recommend them. You can read other reviews here on Amazon, but I personally think the cost of these adjustable dumbbells easily pay for themselves in the first couple months compared to going to a gym.
