Concept artwork for front exterior

Below you can see the House as it was on the day we completed the sale. The Previous Owners were nice enough to leave us a large pile of rubbish outside the front, and a similar amount inside. You may also appreciate the black painted wood beams.... we didn't, can't wait to rip them down. It's not quite so clear from this photo that the house isn't actually white, it was white, but then the previous owners did a patchy paint job in a light cream. So, we officially had (and still do) the worst looking house in the neighbourhood.

But on to the good stuff....below is a mockup of our current idea for what to do to remodel the front exterior of the house.

Several things are included, starting at the road:

  1. Move the entrance to the property to the right side and drop the curb (not done by the previous owners, although they did create a hard standing, which will require planning permission and probably cost a fair bit)
  2. Build a new wall down both the boundaries and across the front of the property, render it and paint it white to match the rest of the house. Add short posts and low level spiked iron railings to discourage kids from congregating on the wall (a current problem)
  3. Build a porch extension (will need planning and building consent)
  4. Move the front door to the right side of the new porch
  5. Replace the existing single-glazed windows with new double-glazing, change the window designs to create a "cleaner" look and co-ordinate the size of the various glass panels
  6. Create a new paved drive and side access path using a medium grey brick, with dark grey bricks for the border
  7. We'd also like to add an electric sliding gate to the driveway (we've seen kits available for under £500), which would further improve the frontage and general privacy of the property

So, there you have it - we'll be creating a more detailed CAD model of these ideas to workup the dimensions and internal layouts. When these are completed I'll post some more details.
