November 28, 2016 – India: XS CAD recently exhibited at the Autodesk University 2016 exhibition (15 – 17 November) in Las Vegas. This was the third time that XS CAD have exhibited at the annual event which has approximately 10,000 attendees from the construction, manufacturing and film design sectors.

As an established provider of BIM services to retailers, architects, homebuilders and MEP engineers, XS CAD views the AU show as an important platform to communicate and share some of our projects around the globe. As an external supplier XS CAD’s ability to integrate seamlessly into a customer’s design workflow is usually a topical conversation, with most attendees seeing the value in working with a company that is as detailed and thorough as XS CAD.
This year the XS CAD team also extended our demonstration to Virtual Reality (VR) for MEP and architectural projects. Our VR experience allowed visitors to experience some of our 3D models through VR goggles and also to walkthrough some of our 3D environments, allowing a 360 holistic perspective of some of our MEP and architectural models.
The models themselves are from a number of projects that XS CAD have carried out for engineers, architects and homebuilders. By taking production models and importing them into 3DS Max we were able to create models that were more realistic. One of the models, (a M&E plant room) allowed users to walk around the plantroom using a VR remote control.
User feedback was positive, with many users commenting on the realism and the usefulness of the VR environment for their customers and also for internal communication.
XS CAD’s in house R&D team continue to research the increased use of immersive technologies such as VR and how it can be used for varied MEP and architectural BIM projects. The R&D team have also experimented the use of VR with the Augmented Reality (AR) environment and how that will help MEP coordinators, MEP designers and contractors during installation phase.
