JUST IN: LAUTECH students drag Makinde to court over relocation of faculty

Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has been taken to court by some students and parents of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Ogbomoso regarding the relocation of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences to Iseyin.

The students were instructed to move to Iseyin for the second semester of the current academic session.

The plaintiffs, Akintayo Abdulqoyuum Ajibola, Onwi Bassey Edet, Ezekiel Gbadegesin Ogunmola, and Prince Aderemi Olude, have filed a suit at the Oyo State High Court in Ogbomoso (suit HOG/34/2023).

The suit also names the education commissioner, the acting vice chancellor of the university, and the provost of the Iseyin campus as defendants.

The plaintiffs are seeking a court order to prevent the governor and his representatives from proceeding with the relocation.

The claimants are requesting three reliefs in their claim. Firstly, they are seeking a court order instructing the respondents, whether directly or through their agents, employees, or anyone under their authority, to immediately return all of the courses that have been relocated from the Faculty of Agricultural Science and Renewable Natural Resources on the main campus of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology in Ogbomoso back to the main campus.

Additionally, the claimants are asking the court for an order directing the respondents, whether directly or through their agents, employees, or anyone under their authority, to reverse the decision to move all second-year students, as stated in the letter dated October 19, 2023, signed by the Registrar of the third defendant/respondent on behalf of the fourth defendant/respondent, from the Iseyin Campus back to the main campus of Ladoke Akintola University.

They want “an order of injunction restraining the respondents, their agents, servants or anybody under their authority from moving all the already established courses from the Faculty of Agricultural Science and Renewable Natural Resources of the main campus of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso to Iseyin campus or any other campuses outside the main campus.”

However, no date has been fixed for the hearing of the suit as of the time of filing this report on Sunday.
