Early Life

Boitumelo Thulo (born April 28, 1990), in Potchefstroom, South Africa. She was nurtured by her maternal grandmother in Potchefstroom, North West, where she was born. Her mother, Modiehi Thulo, has only one daughter.

Thulo initially attended Monash University to study psychology and criminology but subsequently left since her mother could not afford her varsity fees. She subsequently joined a casting company, which led to her 2010 appearance in a Wimpy commercial.

Education

Boity Thulo dropped out of Monash University’s psychology and criminology programs because her mother couldn’t cover her tuition. She then signed up with a casting company and made a 2010 Wimpy advertisement.

Career

Acting Career

In 2011, Thulo launched her television career by hosting the “Crib Notes” educational program on YOTV. She then served as Thomani Mahlaba’s co-host on the SABC 1 program The Media Career Guide Show. She has also hosted several television programs, including Zoned, Change Down, SkyRoom Live, Ridiculousness Africa, Club 808, and Big Brother Africa.

Thulo’s debut starring role was in the drama series Rockville in 2012. She played “Mpho Bogatsu” for all four seasons.

2014 saw Thulo make her feature film debut as “Betty” in the lighthearted short Dear Betty. She also had a minor part, “Marie,” in the 2016 film Mrs. Right Guy. In October 2021, Boity was a finalist for African Social Star at the 47th People’s Choice Awards.

Music

On October 21, 2017, at the TicketPro Dome in South Africa, Boity Thulo made her rapping debut as part of the Migos Culture Tour. Thulo joined Nasty C as one of the opening acts, while the Migos were one or two hours late.

Featuring Nasty C, Thulo debuted with the “Wuz Dat” release on August 30, 2018. The song became the first female rapper‘s single to be certified platinum in South Africa, making it the best-selling female rapper single of all time in that nation. She became the first lead female rapper to do this when it won the “Best Collaboration” category at the 2018 South African Hip Hop Awards.

She dropped “Bakae,” her second single, on February 8.

Along with Ami Faku, Simmy, and Busiswa, Boity served as the headlining act for Rose Fest in October 2022. She released the EP 4436 on December 4, 2020, focusing primarily on Boity and guest appearances from Ricky Rick and several other musicians. The album was a Best Hip Hop Album finalist at the 27th South African Music Awards.

It was revealed in 2021 that Boity Thulo had signed a recording contract with Def Jam Africa. She was the first person to tweet about it. She shared a preview of her new single “The Yano Way” on Instagram on August 19, 2021. Daliwonga and Felo will both appear in the song.

Rapper Cassper Nyovest and Boity Thulo previously dated, and their relationship has been on and off. After becoming engaged, the couple decided to break it up, and their romance terminated in December 2015. Thulo was hospitalized in October 2021 due to an altercation with Bujy Bikw.
