From Design Agency to Freelancer

From Design Agency To Freelancer

How Depixion began.

So Depixion was established back in 2012 as a small agency with big ideas, the agency was operated by two people Ben Steward and Myself (Adam Godsall) since the inception of the company.

Both our skills and experience contributed to the company’s success since the start, and together we worked with many companies that we never really thought we would.

So, what changed?

Depixion grew strength to strength and in the years, the work became more demanding and time-consuming, more paperwork than design in some cases. Depixion was created to balance both of our lives with a perfect share of work time and family time, which by the end became harder to do.

Late 2016 the decision was made for both directors to follow their own paths and part ways, Ben Steward who is a talented designer found his path in relatively quick time and is now a creative art worker for a publication company.

Me, well it took a little longer to settle, but my decision was to keep Depixion as a Freelance service, after all working for an employer was not on the cards for me, I like to forge my path.

The Change

All though I have been a freelance web designer before the Depixion was created, I was naïve to think that slipping back in to the role of a freelancer was going to be easy. So, after months of reviewing past work, cost of projects, past pricing model, and so many other factors, I began the process to find myself again who was lost in all the high corporate “agency” tosh.

So, research into the freelance market began in October 2016, followed by taking some time to reflect on my personal  and family life. I realised that to be truly happy, I needed the work life balance to be just right.

This is where returning to a freelance role suits my lifestyle.

The benefits I offer as a freelancer.

I dedicate my time to your project; you deal direct with one person (me). The less time I’m filling out paperwork, the more time I can create an awesome design or website. I can work remotely from anywhere, my home studio, the local Costa, even on my travels, thanks to today’s technology. Granted 80% of the time I work from home studio, but you can rest assured I live life for the creativity, that I put into company’s projects.

What’s the benefit for you?

Cost – My pricing has been restructured to give lower costs than an agency, and I should know, Depixion was once such an agency.

Speed – I can work on projects any time of the day or night until a project is completed on time, so deadlines can easily be achievable.

Communication – As you deal direct with me and not a busy department, there is less chance for communication to go astray, and is generally more fluid.

Remote –I use a project management system for bigger complex projects, that keeps both parties informed of where the project is at any time. So, working remotely is not an issue and is generally a great way of working on projects and saves on cost.

My future.

I aim to give the same level of service as I always have, this time as a freelancer but with more flexibility to offer exactly what my clients need. I aim to travel and use my second passion Photography to take some amazing shots of our beautiful world and share with you via my blog, which I promise will start to look a little more personal 🙂

I just want to be creative, be inspired by creativity, and pass that creativity on to you.
