Healthcare startups scramble to assess fallout after Postmeds data breach hits millions of patients

Over two million people in the United States have been informed that their personal and sensitive health information was stolen in a cyberattack at Postmeds, the parent company of online pharmacy startup Truepill. The breach has also affected Healthcare Startups that relied on Postmeds to fulfill prescriptions. The stolen data includes patient names, demographic information, prescribed medications, and prescriber details. Postmeds has begun sending written notices to affected individuals, but some recipients were unaware of the company's existence. Truepill's website states that it has delivered 20 million prescriptions to three million people since 2016.
