Police disperse opposition demonstrators in Madagascar

Opposition demonstrators in Madagascar clashed with Police just days before the presidential elections. The protestors, numbering in the hundreds, claimed that the electoral process was biased in favor of the incumbent president. They set up barricades, threw stones at riot police, and set fire to tires before being dispersed. Eleven people were arrested and around 10 demonstrators were treated for minor injuries. The head of European diplomacy expressed concern about the tense political climate and called for equal opportunities for all candidates and the respect of fundamental freedoms. Opposition protests with incidents of violence have been occurring regularly in recent weeks.
