Off-duty Alaska Airlines pilot charged with 83 counts of attempted murder in alleged engine shutdown attempt

An off-duty Alaska Airlines Pilot has been charged with 83 counts of attempted murder after allegedly trying to shut down the engines of a flight. The incident occurred on an Alaska Airlines subsidiary flight from Everett, Washington, to San Francisco, which had to divert to Portland International Airport in Oregon. The off-duty pilot, Joseph David Emerson, tried to interfere with the engines but was unsuccessful. The plane landed safely, and no injuries were reported.
