Canada House speaker apologizes for honoring man who fought for Nazis

The speaker of Canada's House of Commons, Anthony Rota, has apologized for recognizing a man who Fought for a Nazi military unit during World War II. Rota introduced 98-year-old Yaroslav Hunka as a war hero who fought for the First Ukrainian Division, which was under the command of the Nazis. Rota later expressed regret for his decision and extended his apologies to Jewish communities in Canada and around the world. The invitation and recognition of Hunka were not known to the Prime Minister's Office or the Ukrainian delegation. Various Jewish organizations have called for an apology and an explanation for this incident.
