American woman said to be among 18 aid workers detained in Afghanistan

A total of 18 Aid Workers, including one American Woman, have been arrested by Taliban officials in Ghor province, Afghanistan, for allegedly "propagating and promoting Christianity." The detainees, who worked for The International Assistance Mission (IAM), were transferred to Kabul for further investigation. The Taliban have tightened restrictions on NGOs in the country, and last year, they barred all organizations from employing women. IAM, which has been operating in Afghanistan since 1966, has spent over $40 million in the last decade on initiatives related to healthcare, education, and community development.
