Lee makes landfall with near-hurricane strength in Canada

Post-tropical cyclone Lee made Landfall in Nova Scotia with near-hurricane strength, according to the US National Hurricane Center. The storm had maximum sustained winds of 70 mph, just below the threshold for a Category 1 hurricane. Lee had previously threatened the US East Coast with dangerous surf and rip currents. As of 5 p.m. EDT, the storm was located about 80 miles south-southeast of Eastport, Maine, and about 150 miles west-southwest of Halifax, Nova Scotia. A state of emergency was declared ahead of Lee's arrival.
