Electrify America, the EV charging company owned by Volkswagen, has announced that a 75 MW Solar Farm in Southern California is now operational. Instead of operating the solar farm themselves, Electrify America has entered into a 15-year virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) with renewable energy developer Terra-Gen. The VPPA allows Electrify America to purchase the energy generated by the solar farm at a fixed price, while also taking on some risk if market prices rise. The solar farm is expected to produce 225 GWh of energy annually, which is equivalent to the carbon sequestered by planting nearly 40 million trees.
