Côte d’Ivoire’s first ambulance boat has begun operations, serving residents of the lagoon who were previously cut off from access to emergency care. The boat, which was funded by Assinie’s city council to the tune of €76,000 ($89,000), is equipped with essential medical equipment such as an oxygen supply, defibrillator and heart monitor. It is staffed by several health professionals and can accommodate up to four patients. The boat’s success has prompted the mayor to consider commissioning a second boat.
