Disney’s Lootcase Review: A Basic Storyline With Cash and Hooligans!

Lootcase premiered on Disney+ Hotstar on 31st July 2020. The film is a part of Hotstar Multiplex which has a series of Bollywood movies lined up to premiere on the OTT platform.

Lootcase stars Kunal Khemu, Rasika Dugal, Vijay Raaz, Ranvir Shorey, Gajraj Rao, Aakash Dabhade, and Aryan Prajapati. It is directed by Rajesh Krishnan.

Paise Ka Chakkar Bhaiya, Paise Ka!

When I started watching Lootcase, the story seemed pretty predictable, which it is. Nandan (Kunal Khemu) is almost drowning in his middle-class life with a wife, Lata (Rasika Dugal), who has too many demands and complaints 24×7 and a son, Aayush (Aryan Prajapati), obsessed with going to the water park – “Papa, mei janta hu gharme paise ka problem chalra hai, lekin uske liye please mera water park cancel mat karna.” Well, that’s quite inconsiderate, but kids!

Kunal Khemu as Nandan

Lootcase has all the familiar elements in it – a bag full of looted cash, crazy goons, corrupt politicians and a file with all their secrets and cheats which ultimately causes murder and mayhem. The fact that the money was stolen from a top-notch politician, who was getting it hand-delivered (old fashioned ideas!) to another highly valued and corrupt politician’s wife through a gang of goons doesn’t help the whole plot as such!

And adding funny dance music to the gun-fight scene isn’t exactly the 21st-century idea. But still, it manages to pull out a minuscule of laughter!

Vijay Raaz as Bala Rathore

Apart from Khemu’s amazing acting, another thing I loved in the movie was Vijay Raaz as Bala Rathore, a goon obsessed with Nat-Geo and would talk about crocodiles and snakes obsessively. It was funny, honestly!

The length of the film weighs upon the plot, which starts stretching and flattening, and for a good amount of time, the movie carries a flat tone. A crisper plot and faster pace would have made Lootcase what it was aiming to be but that’s not what the audience got! I am no movie genius, but it was so very predictable it got frustrating.

Stream It or Skip It

Lootcase is a movie that you watch when you have nothing better to do. It’s mindless entertainment, and due to its very unoriginal script with unignorable flaws, it’s a perfect candidate. Writers Kapil Sawant and Rajesh Krishnan adhere more to the safe route and doesn’t risk even an ounce of their effort!

Kunal Khemu as an oh-so-bechara aam aadmi does a good job. Gajraj Rao as the corrupt politician doesn’t disappoint with his bit of acting in the film overall, but the effort is blurred in the wider view. Ranvir Shorey, the tough cop Kolte who doesn’t even blink when he shoots, and as always, is watchable and amazing! The music of the film also doesn’t have anything special or appealing to it.

If you’re looking forward to a film you can watch while scrolling Instagram, Lootcase is the one.

Lootcase is now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
