I’m not keen on Recording Smule Videos. I mean, I’ll do it, if I really have to. For instance for a group challenge or competition. But honestly, it makes me uncomfortable.

Why Not Record Smule Videos?

There are plenty of reasons people don’t record Smule videos. For example:

• They’re self conscious – this is mine and I feel my vocals suffer as a result
• People can make some great singing faces – some of us are more bothered about these than others
• In some cases, people don’t want to be identified
• Some devices don’t support video
• If your internet connection is poor, Smule videos can take too long to upload once you finish recording, or sometimes not at all! (though if this is your issue, my option may not help you much either I’m afraid)

Sharing Recordings on Social Media

So you don’t do videos, but you want to share your recordings on social media. Have you noticed that hardly anyone will listen to an audio only link? Social media posts, in general, receive a higher level of engagement if they have images or videos included. In a society where we scroll through everything quickly, something has to grab us; make us stop and take notice.

How Can You Grab People’s Attention?

I’m going to walk you through the process of creating what I call ‘Audio Art’. You’ll be able to share your recording as a video, with a great, eye catching design.

It will take a little bit more time than just pushing the share button in the Smule app. However, I think it’s worth it.

Converting Your Smule Recording

Firstly, you’ll need to convert you’re Smule recording into a sound file. You can do this on the Sing Salon website, via the ‘Downloader‘ tab. Just copy the url of the recording and paste it in the box on screen. Press the ‘Fetch data for this song’ button. Once complete, you’ll need to download and save your track.

Creating Your Design

Next you’ll need to create a beautiful, eye-catching design. I use Canva for this part of the process. I find the ‘Social Media’ design type is the best size. Canva provide a design tutorial to help you make the most of their features and produce a stunning graphic.

The Last Step

Now all you need to do is merge the two together, to create your ‘Audio Art’.

For this step, I use Artwork.fm. It’s incredibly straightforward. Push the ‘Create Video’ button. Enter a title. Go ahead and choose your image and sound file, then press the ‘Save’ button. It takes a few moments to upload and then process your files. When it’s ready, you can download the finished product and share it wherever you like. This will still be subject to the same copyright laws as the original Smule recording, for purposes such as YouTube and Soundcloud.

Personally, this has been a really useful way of getting around the issue of not doing Smule videos. I use them to upload my covers to YouTube and Soundcloud, when permitted by copyright.
