The race is on: Who will make the first flexible smartphone?

Disclaimer: you are about to discover the circus phenomenon of phones. Do not try anything seen on this post with your personal one at home, all was made by professional appliances.

Gymnastic Meets Technology

What if our phones were not just smart, but also stretchy as a ballet dancer? Technology is dreaming about gadgets that may bend, and I particularly find it exciting as there have been numerous times I wished I could minimize my laptop or even other non-technological stuff, just like in cartoons, to carry everywhere.

In my opinion, it was a little late when engineers started thinking and working in merging flexibility with tech, as in real life there are many non-rigid scenarios which are better than the statics one, e. g., going out with someone who doesn’t know how to dance may be boring at the club, and overall, the open-minded people, because of its versatility to adapt, are the coolest and most successful ones. Why not applied to gadgets? In spite of the delay, it is good to hear that floppy as philosophy in near future technologies is coming and companies are devising a way to create a flexible smartphone.

Foldable Innovation: For What?

Beyond the visual and intellectual awesomeness; stretchy, flexing handsets and technologies may signify against general electronics that normally do not bend, it comes to my mind an endless list of practical uses and applications.

First, the resistance to the falls and blows of these terminals could be greater. Its structure will more stoically withstand the sudden tension of a blow thanks to its elasticity, the same that serves to bend the device.

They will probably be devices that resists dead weight well: as you can see in the LG “G Flex” promotional video, its smartphone supports 32 kilos over without breaking off. No one is going to mistakenly place a 32-kilo ballast on their mobile phone, but in case of sitting on it, this skill can be useful. Ultimately the device could be carried in the back pocket, adjusting when you sit.

Fashion may be invited to the party as well. With devices like the next Lenovo‘s groundbreaking wearable, a concept wherein the brand suggests a device that wraps around your wrist using a segmented screen. Going out, dressed up and no pockets will not be a problem and also will give us a techy, modern look.

Flexible Smartphone: A Race for the First Place

There are folding mobile phones, both from Samsung and LG, which could end up seeing the light throughout 2k17, but would be launched at a very low scale to see its operation within a market that they consider not yet prepared.

If venturing into the global launch of a Flexible device in the market, I think it would begin with tablets, as a concept that is more understandable and encompasses a flexible and collapsible philosophy until now through the historic timeline evolution of laptops and portable computers.

Evolution in phones has been actually a funny, weird tale. At the beginning, they were such brick sized objects with buttons and tiny screens, then they got smaller, and the today’s averages are just huge screens bigger than a brick. How could the story continue? Honestly, something striking could be a device as strong as the old indestructible and reliable classic Nokia.
