REPORT: Roy Hibbert, Charlotte Hornets Agree to 1-Year Deal

Roy Hibbert (Ed Szczepanski-USA TODAY Sports)

Roy Hibbert had a less than stellar season with the Los Angeles Lakers last season. Alright, he had a pretty horrible season with LA. He’s a slow big man with not many moves in the paint and he’s a issue on the defensive end. Typically not in a good way.

Still, it’s hard to deny a 7’2″ big man with some size and ability around the paint. Especially if you get him on a cheap deal. The Charlotte Hornets did just that, agreeing to terms with Hibbert, seemingly as a replacement for Al Jefferson.

Following from Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical on Yahoo! Sports.

Free-agent center Roy Hibbert has agreed to a one-year, $5 million deal with the Charlotte Hornets, league sources told The Vertical.

Hibbert, 29, has fallen severely from his All-Star status a couple of years ago with the Indiana Pacers but will try to resurrect his career under coach Steve Clifford and his associate head coach, Hall of Fame center Patrick Ewing.

Ewing and Hibbert have a relationship as Georgetown University basketball alumni.

Oddly enough, Jefferson joined Hibbert’s old team that he had the most success with in the Indiana Pacers. For Hibbert, hopefully he can return to somewhat of a solid player after an ugly 2015-16 season. He averaged 5.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.4 blocks for the Lakers.
