6 Things Your Over Analysing When It Comes To Relationships

When it comes to relationships, there’s not one of us who can say that they haven’t over analysed something – at least once. And if we’re going to be honest with ourselves, we do it almost daily.

Sigmund Freud once said “Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar”.

And he was right. But that doesn’t make it any easier when it comes to going over everything with a fine tooth comb just incase you missed a vital sign or a spot of secret code.

Here are 10 of the most common things over analysed in relationships…

  1. “I cant make it tonight”

Cancelling plans is annoying but it can also send you in to a tailspin wondering if he’s actually trying to back out of a relationship with you. Likelihood is that something has just come up and he can no longer make it. If it’s happening on a regular basis then it maybe time to have a chat but for just one off dates, try not to read too much in to it.

2. “I need some alone time”

New relationships can be intense. You get caught up in that bubble of wanting to see and speak to each other all day long. We’ve all been there. But at some point you’re going to want to have your own space, and he is too. Recognise the need for space and just leave him to it. Absence really does make the heart grow fonder.

3. Leaving your toothbrush at his place

Hold your horses. Just because he’s suggested you leave a few things at his place, it doesn’t mean he wants you to move in. It just means that you can get to work easier in the morning. So resist moving your entire flat in to his.

4. He’s not sure if he wants marriage or kids

Not everyone has the same outlook and some can take longer to decide on these things than others. And that’s ok. It’s worth sharing your feelings on this but if he doesn’t reciprocate don’t assume it’s because he’s not in to you or he’s not serious – it could be that he just hasn’t committed to that particular idea yet.

5. Meeting the family/friends

Meeting your family and friends can be a BIG deal. You may think they are wonderful and love spending loads of time with them but for an outsider to come in, knowing they will be grilled within an inch of their life, it’s not a fun prospect. If he doesn’t seem keen on meeting your family and friends yet, don’t push it. It doesn’t mean he doesn’t approve of them or he doesn’t like the sound of them, it just means he needs a bit more time. It also shows he’s more interested in getting to know you, and you’re more important in this situation right?

6. Changing your Facebook status

Let me be clear on something. Facebook status’ aren’t the defining part of any relationship. I’ve been with my boyfriend for nearly seven years and I still have neglected to share that I’m in a relationship. Am I ashamed or embarrassed about being in a relationship? No. Am I not serious about my relationship? No.

It’s just that I don’t really feel the need to share it with the world.

Not updating your relationship status on Facebook has caused so many rows between couples, with the over analysing of just why he’s trying to hide you away. But it could be, that he’s just not worried about what the world thinks and that you’re more important than some social media tag. So if he’s not changed that status yet then don’t worry, so long as you’re happy then your relationship is on the right track.

So if you’ve been wondering why he’s not text back or why he forgot to add the smilie face when he did – then chill out. Avoid over thinking when it comes to relationships and you’ll find that you’ll become happier, healthier and more in love than ever before.
