It’s the Mother’s Wisdom you gave the kids. Now give it to yourself.

Hi Sisters – Do you know how incredibly awesome you are?  You have Wisdom within you that can solve the toughest of problems. Your heart is capable of generating so much love it can provide the wind beneath another’s wings and allow them to soar.

Every woman has a deep pool of wisdom within. What’s yours?

You are so amazing and wise beyond belief.

Proof is in the advice and guidance you imparted to your kids as they were growing up. By ‘kids’ I’m referring to biological children, step kids, grand children, nieces, nephews, ‘adopted’ children and friend’s kids…all young people whose lives you have had the privilege of influencing.

Which of these did you offer?

Anything is possible.

The most unimaginable things become possible with belief. There is nothing…Nothing…that is impossible in life. If you want it enough. You WILL make it happen.

Dream Big.

They say dream a dream and then double it. That’s how big the dream should be to start. Small dreams are just that…small.

Go for it.

It’s a waste of time ‘waiting’ for something to happen. You’ve got to put yourself out there, stake your claim and GO for it with everything you’ve got.

Don’t be afraid of failure it brings you closer to success.

Failure should be embraced and not be feared it is only there to prepare us for success.

Don’t just think about it. Do something!

Getting into action is the secret. Once in action you are unstoppable and on your way.

If you can dream it. You can make it happen.

We are not given the ability to dream a dream without the ability to make it happen. Believe and trust in your dreams.

Use your imagination!

Everything great in this world was first imagined. Imagination finds solutions to the greatest problems, it is fuels innovation, it creates all that is new.

Listen to your heart.

The head may lead you astray but the heart is never wrong. Learn to listen to it. Trust it. Follow it.

Why not you?

Someone has to be a the top, accepted, get the job, get the promotion, receive the raise. Stand tall. Know you are good enough.

As parents we all had special messages that were meant to inspire, empower and build our kids into responsible, caring, contributing members of society and pave the way to their ultimate success and happiness.

We wanted them to know that the world was their oyster and that they should Dream big dreams and that they could become anything with determination, perseverance and hard work. That they were unique, one of a kind and had the power to make a difference. That sometimes failure happens on the way to success so you pick yourself up, dust yourself and keep going.

Find what you love and then go for it! Give everything you’ve got to everything you do. If you don’t know what to do…just start…it will all become clear. Be of service to others. Listen to your gut.

You imparted messages like these. I know I did.

A friend and I were having coffee recently and remembering all the things we wanted our kids to know.

We chuckled as we realized, even today, we’re still reinforcing the messages to our grown ‘children’ given the opportunity.

Then we looked at each other, the penny dropping at the same moment.

These were our core beliefs. Were we living them? When was the last time we had lovingly infused or propped ourselves up with these incredible nuggets of wisdom?

Couldn’t remember. Was it that long ago? Maybe….never?

We laughed one of those embarrassed, incredulous, how-did-we-miss-this laughs.

Humbling moment.

It was time to walk the talk and take our own best advice.

Steve Jobs delivered an unforgettable commencement address to Stanford students in 2005, six years before he died. I watched it when I got home that day after coffee. I pretended I was a member of the graduating class preparing to launch into life, well technically I was launching into life, albeit Life Part II.  The messages were powerful and an exactly what I needed to hear.

Here’s a tiny excerpt from his speech.  The link to the entire address in video and text is below.

“Your time is limited don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma, which is living the result of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown your own inner voice. And more importantly, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition, they somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”

What were the main messages you gave to your kids? Please share in the comments below.

Confession – Mine were Anything is Possible/Embrace Failure. (I had work to do).

You will always be role modelling your beliefs for your family. That’s why checking in with self and ensuring you’re walking your talk is so important. Are you living with the guidance and advise you offered your kids? What message do you most need to start living fully, richly, expansively? Agree to start today.  Then set out to create the life you dream of in Life Part II.

Please pass this along to other women who need to be reminded to check into the deep pool of wisdom they possess. It’s what will allow them to grow, expand and flourish and achieve their deepest desires. It’s  your gift to them and yourself.

Your biggest cheerleader,

Cheryl x
