FALL STYLE 2016 – What Micolle is Saying YES to

“I’ve got a closet full of clothes and nothing to wear!”

Sometimes I fling open the doors of my closet and stare it down hoping something will miraculously jump out – fully put together and accessorized (of course).  It never does and I default to my same old same old. You too?

That’s why we’re so lucky to have  Red Shoe Style Expert Micolle Canido. Micolle knows her stuff and is best described as a magician when it comes to creating style.

I remember the time she came to my house in response to my pleas of h-e-e-e-e-lp. I’d been asked to give a keynote and needed something to wear. She was like a Ninja as she went through my closet. She pulled things out, laid them on the bed and then instructed me to start trying on this with that and that with this. Combos I’d never (even) remotely thought of. We found something awesome. From my own closet! WOW! Imagine that!! It had style, personality and kind of a cool quality. “I actually own this?”  Incredible.

In my dream life Micolle is my own personal stylist and puts me together every day. I am a style maven like her!

But alas I know that isn’t likely to happen sooooo the next best thing is to ask her to share style inspiration with all of us.

Let’s start with…..Micolle what are you wearing this Fall?

MICOLLE: I Love Fall! I wait with great anticipation for this time of year… excited to see the fall collections hit the retail outlets and give life to washed out summer sale window displays across the city. September and October also bring Fashion Week and I get equally caught up capturing glimpses of fashion houses as they debut their Womenswear Spring/Summer 2017 collections (more on that later) …but hands down…Fall is my season premiere!

Never thought I’d see the day but I said YES to Cargo Pants

YES TO VESTS

One item I’m happy to see more of this season, are vests. They’re a staple in my closet and I have them in a few different neutral colours. My favourite one is a heavier weighted knit that hits me just above my knee and has long side slits. The slits give the vest effortless movement. Being 5’2 I tend to wear the same colour as the vest giving it a sophisticated tone on tone look. Add a belt or not, vests are easy and the perfect layering piece for the season. I’ve also worn my vests with my new cargo pants and flats for a more daytime look.

Vests…long ..short ..in between. I go for tone on tone to make 5’2″ look as long and lean as possible.

YES TO MOTORCYCLE JACKET

Although the motorcycle jacket is a timeless piece that will never really loose its coolness factor and I have one that I wear to death, this season I invested in this little number from JACbyJC. It was one of those pieces I saw months ago and knew I had to have it. The butter like leather, exaggerated collar, and ¾ length sleeves was everything I wanted in a belted fall waistcoat. It’s great with jeans but I’ll also be wearing it with a long silk slip dress on date nightsJ

YES TO BOOTIES

These days I’m focusing a lot more on comfort when it comes to footwear. My heels are often on standby if I need to elevate a look from day to night. The block heel with a pointed toe is working perfectly for me these days as it gives me a bit of height and keeps me comfortable if I’m on my feet for long periods of time. Those that know me know I don’t sit still for long!  And when I need to be super comfortable and chic at the same time I “heart” these.

I love these black booties

This wraps up a few of my go to pieces to get me through this fall. They are practical, simple, comfortable, and look fashion forward without trying too hard. As for any trends that I’m following this season…I have to say chokers and the slip dress.

Have fun with what fall has to offer. Add a few quality pieces into your wardrobe to reflect the season of layering. Quality over quantity is what I always say. And remember to stay true to your personal style regardless what the trends say.

A LOOK AHEAD TO SPRING – JAC 2017 SPRING COLLECTION

Now as promised here’s a sneak peek at the JAC 2017 Spring Collection. I’ve been a fan of JAC  designer Rozemerie Cuevas since the day we met 16 years ago. Insiders describe her style as French Bohemian with Italian sexiness and North American cool. I love the clean lines and subtle edginess and most importantly the fact her designs can be worn in multiple ways.
