Easy Corn Dog Casserole with Baked Beans – A Family Favorite

This recipe for Corn Dog Casserole with Baked Beans has drop cornbread biscuits to top a delicious mix of smoky and sweet baked beans and chopped hot dogs. This oven meal will appeal to both young and old with how the baked beans, catsup and mustard sauce combines before digging into the fluffy and golden cornbread topping.

Why This Baked Bean Corn Dog Meal Recipe Deserves Your Attention

  • First of all, it is so tasty and such a comforting hot meal to serve family and friends. What a better dish for your dinner table, especially now as the temperatures drop and colder weather sets in to warm their stomachs and spirits.
  • Secondly, it is a very easy bean and hot dog casserole with cornbread topping to make. All that you do is basically chop a half pound of hot dogs, open two cans of baked beans and mix with catsup, water and prepared mustard before making a simple cornbread topping to drop over the mixture. Afterwards, it is just baking.
  • This is a great meal that is ideal to put into your recipe rotation all the family, but more so for picky eaters such as kids and people with false teeth or a hard time chewing. For some reason, most kids love eating frankfurters, regardless of the form that they are in. This baked beans and weiners cornbread bake is soft and requires less vigorous chewing than harder foods for those with problems to the jaw and teeth.
  • Finally, this corn dog baked beans casserole also reheats wonderfully in the microwave, if you have any leftovers to make a delicious hot lunch.

Tips and Tricks to Make This Baked Bean Weiner and Cornbread Topping

  • Do not over mix the batter for the drop cornmeal biscuits. You just want to moisten the ingredients enough to incorporate them smoothly. A large spoon, fork or whisk is good enough to use to make them.
  • You can bake this casserole in a 12 x 8 x 2″ inch baking pan and cover with aluminum foil or use a 10-inch cast iron frying pan with lid like I did this time.

I hope that you give this hot dog meal a try because it is a keeper. Please feel free to share it with your family and friends as well.

1 tablespoon of sugar
1 ½ teaspoons of baking powder, leveled
1 teaspoon of salt
2/3 cup of corn meal
1 large egg
2/3 cup of milk
1/4 cup of canola oil

Next, make the cornbread topping.

To Prepare the Cornbread Topping:

Sift together in another mixing bowl, the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cornmeal.

Add a slightly beaten egg, milk and oil and gently mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until combined.

Pour the hot dog filling at the bottom of your 10-inch frying pan or 12 x 8 x 2-inch baking pan.
