How to Make a Hot Tuna Sandwich With Mushroom Soup

Tuna fish is always a great standby when it comes to mealtime with all that you can do with it. This hot Tuna Sandwich with cream of mushroom soup is a fresh and healthy take on a classic baked tuna sandwich. This tuna melt has just a few other simple ingredients of mushroom soup, onion and green pepper pieces before topping with a slice of American cheese melting on the top of this tasty baked sandwich.

Why Make This Tuna Sandwich in the Oven?

  • This recipe is so delicious and different from what you might expect. The creamy mushroom soup mingling with the sweetness after the onion and green pepper baking through gives this sandwich a delightful flavor, especially once the bubbling, hot cheese melts.
  • It is a healthier tuna sandwich. After all, you will be substituting a can of condensed cream of mushroom soup in place of a heavier and less healthy dressing such as typical mayonnaise or salad dressing that also has more calories.
  • Another advantage of why you want to try this sandwich is because it is incredibly easy to prepare. Seriously, you open a can of tuna fish and cream of mushroom soup, chop the onion and green pepper and just mix the ingredients before assembling the sandwiches.
  • It is a versatile recipe. You can fill buns or spreading the tuna mixture over slices of homemade bread for open-faced sandwiches.
  • This recipe is also quite adaptable. You can cut the recipe in half using a five oz. can of tuna for three to four sandwiches on a bun or six open-faced sandwiches if you need less. Otherwise, you can use a 12-oz. can of tuna to get three filled buns and six open-faced sandwiches. You can store any extra in the refrigerator in a covered container and make more hot sandwiches the next day without worrying about what to make for a quick lunch.
  • This tuna sandwich is a great and satisfying meal idea that can solve what to serve for lunch as the weather starts to get colder. Please try it and share it with your family and friends and please come back to my blog for more home-tested recipes and other great posts that can benefit your life.

Hot Tuna Sandwich With Mushroom Soup

1 (12-oz.) can of drained tuna fish
1 (10.5-oz.) can of condensed cream of mushroom soup
½ cups of minced green pepper
1 small onion, finely chopped
6 -12 slices of American cheese, depending on how many you make

Fill the buns or thick slices of homemade bread with the tuna mixture. You can get three to approximately six filled buns or about a dozen open-faced sandwiches.

Top each bun or open-faced sandwich with a slice of the cheese.

Wrap the filled tuna buns in aluminum foil and place on your baking pan. Or, line up the open-faced sandwiches on a baking sheet and transfer to the oven.

Store any of the remaining mixture in the refrigerator in a covered container to use the next day or reduce the recipe.

Bake in a 400-degree oven for about 10-15 minutes. You want the cheese to slightly brown and open up these sandwiches to they are piping hot!

ENJOY!
