How to Get More Veggies in Your Diet

Most people know how important it is to eat a Healthy serving of vegetables each day. They contain vitamins and nutrients that are vital for your health and well being. Even though there are so many different options to choose from, it can be hard for anyone to eat enough Veggies day in and day out. So, what is the solution? Here are some ways to sneak veggies into your diet for a happier and healthier lifestyle:

  • Replace traditional noodles with spiralized vegetables! Did you know you can make noodles out of zucchini, butternut squash, or even carrots? You can make them at home with a spiralizer, or buy them at the grocery store for a more convenient approach. Add your favorite protein and sauce, and you’ll have a healthy, and delicious, pasta dish.
  • Instead of bread, use lettuce when making a sandwich. This can be a really fun and tasty meal for the whole family. Use large-leafed types of lettuce such as an iceberg head of lettuce, or collard greens, and fill with your favorite sandwich fixings!1
  • Another great way to eat more veggies is to sauté them up and place them on top of your favorite protein. Peppers, onions, and mushrooms are great options to put on chicken, pork, or a steak! It is a great way to add more flavor to your meal, which may encourage you to add less-healthy alternatives such as salt or certain high-calories sauces.1
  • One of the easiest ways to get more veggies into your diet is to add spinach to everything. You can throw the green leafy health food into things such as soups, stews, casseroles, protein shakes, pasta, sandwiches, and basically anything you can think of! These small leaves will add a big amount of nutrients to your diet.1
  • Looking to include vegetables in your breakfast? Why not try a veggie filled protein shake! Mix together fruit, milk or a milk alternative, some protein powder, and a bunch of veggies such as spinach, carrots, kale or even avocado. You probably won’t be able to taste the veggies, and it will be a sweet treat that is also incredibly healthy, to start your day off right.
  • Love mashed potatoes or mac and cheese? These comfort foods are high in flavor but also can be high in calories. Cauliflower and broccoli are great veggies to mix into dishes like this. Grate them into tiny pieces and you won’t even know you are eating a healthy meal.1

Eating more vegetables doesn’t have to be hard, and you don’t have to sacrifice flavor. Eat up! Your mom will be proud.
