Some claim this method is the best way to make rice water. This is because more of the starches in the rice are drawn out in the boiling water. But it also takes more time since you need to let the rice water cool afterward before you can use it.

  • Clean jar or container

The soaking process is the quickest way to make rice water. This is because, though the soaking time is the same as the boiling time, you don’t need to let it cool.

How to Make Rice Water

Now that you’ve gathered all the items you need, choose which method suits your needs and time limit. Then follow these simple steps to a new, natural beauty product for shiny hair and clear skin.

The Boiling Rice Water Method

Step #1: Rinse

The first thing to do is rinse the rice. This is to remove any dirt or impurities from the rice. Using clean rice will help keep unwanted additives from contaminating your rice water. The finished product will then be healthier for your hair and skin.

Step #2: Prepare Rice

Pour about a half cup of rice into the saucepan. Your measure doesn’t have to be 100% accurate, but you can use a measuring cup if you prefer to. Then add about 2-3 cups of water. Since I had a bit of time, I decided to try out this method myself. It was as easy as I thought, and here’s how I did it.

Step #1: Rinse

Rinse the rice the same way you would with the boiling method. This will wash away all the impurities, giving you a healthier product in the end.

Step #2: Cover with Water

Add some rice to your bowl. Cover the rice completely with water. The rice won’t soak up as much water as it would when boiling it, so you don’t need to overdo it.

Step #3: Soak

Let the rice soak in the water for 20-30 minutes. The longer you leave it, the more starches will be extracted. During the soaking time, you should swirl the rice around a bit. You can even knead it to squeeze out all the healthy goodness.

Step #4: Strain

Strain the rice into your jar or container, pressing down on it to squeeze out all the water. Now, your rice water is ready to use. Store it in the fridge to keep it fresh all week. Then discard it and make a new batch.

Pro Tip #1: Ferment Rice

Whether using the boiling or soaking method, consider fermenting your rice water afterward. Fermented rice water has added benefits you may be missing out on by skipping this step. These include minerals, antioxidants, and Vitamins B and E. Fermentation also produce pitera, which has anti-aging properties. Rather than placing the rice water in the fridge, leave it at room temperature for 24 to 48 hours to ferment. You’ll know the rice water is ready when it begins to smell sour. At this point, put it in the fridge to keep it from spoiling. Keep in mind that this will be a rather potent mixture. That’s why it is best to dilute it with 1-2 cups of plain water before you use it.
