Tips from a Breast Cancer Survivor

Her are some tips that we have accumulated and have decided to share with you. Whether you, your spouse or a friend are facing a Cancer diagnosis, these tips can help you and your Loved ones going forward.

  • Know your options and have a list of questions when you meet with your doctor. Ask a loved one to attend with you because you may be overwhelmed.
  • I loved it when I received a card, email or a phone call from family, friends and colleagues.
  • Don’t be afraid to make sure that your physician and nurses listen to and clearly answer your questions, fears and concerns.
  • If someone offers to take you for your appointments consider accepting their gesture because they want to help.
  • My family loved it when someone dropped by with homemade cookies and lasagna. Just make sure to call first.
  • I appreciated knowing my children’s teachers were ensuring they were doing as well as can be expected.
  • Don’t be afraid to call the spouse or caregiver of the family, to see how they are holding up as well.
  • Participate in exercise classes recommended by your health care team.
  • Check Canadian Breast Cancer Network for reliable resources and websites. Only visit reputable sites.
  • Give yourself permission to ask for help.

We hope these help!
