Bedroom Makeover – Dark Moody Velvets Design

It’s safe to say I’m a little obsessed with my new bedroom makeover! I’ve gone for dark moody velvets with light walls and a lighter carpet for balance. I wish I had taken before photos, but I truly just hated my room so much so I didn’t want to but now I can’t stop taking photos. It’s taken a little while to completely finish as I really didn’t want to buy new bedding, but more on that later. I’ve never been able to completely do my room from top to bottom like this before, from lack of funds, to lack of help, and being disabled means there’s no way I could do it alone, so I asked for my room to be painted as my Christmas present. I helped as much as I could as I’ve recently found a new love for DIY projects, I’m not talking massive unrealistic things, but just little projects I can do by myself or with minimal help, lots of breaks in between and then a flare up for a few days after, it’s not the smartest new hobby for someone with chronic pain but I am enjoying it! Bedroom Makeover – Dark Moody Velvets Paint I really wanted to think about longevity when it came to picking the paint. We’ve tried those ‘wash down’ paints and they’re just never any good. The texture of my walls was really starting to bug me so I thought, why not work with that texture? Enhance it, even make it a feature. So I started looking at Faux Limewash on Tiktok and it looked so easy, I’d say the only place where we really went strong was not blending enough but I don’t mind that it’s a bit more dramatic as once everything is back in you can only really see one wall so it’s not too much. Some people add water but we just did half a paint in of Valspar Biscuit Crumbs mixed with 1 silver glitter, and half Soft Pelican with no glitter. We didn’t want the glitter to be too much and it came out perfectly but if I was doing it again, the more glitter the better. You can’t see it with the naked eye, it doesn’t slap you in the face, but once the light catches it looks so pretty. Carpet The idea was with a dark green bed and darker curtains/accent colours that a lighter cream carpet would be more suited. My mum’s always taught me that you pick the thickest and highest quality carpet you can afford and get the best underlay too so that’s what we did. United Carpets Stainfree Eternal Deep Pile Saxony Carpet in Chenille. I originally wanted a darker carpet as with my bright red hair and how much it leaks, I’ve never done light colours in my room but it does work so much better. Green Velvet Statement Bed I’ve been planning to get a bed from JMH Beds for the longest time, I see them constantly on Facebook and I’ve never seen a bad word against them. They’re a Yorkshire-based company and can usually deliver really quickly, with bespoke, custom-made options available too and as I knew I wanted a fancy statement headboard, but a divan base for storage and space, it was the place for me. You can pick any style and any colour but a little warning to fellow green lovers, this is the only green they do. Luckily it’s absolutely gorgeous. It’s the Chevron with a 60 inch headboard, the headboard is SO thick and luxurious, and it really has exceeded expectations. I wanted a real statement bed and loved the design, it looks amazing in green! Bedding I’ve spent a bit too much over the years on bedding but who are in pain constantly, a comfortable bed is a must. There’s no point telling you as the company isn’t trading anymore but I upgraded my mattress a few years ago new mattresses are so hard so I got a topper too. It wasn’t until I had just tried this new Hybrid® Mattress Topper from Simba that I realised how truly awful mine was. It was lumpy, not very cushioned, it’d fall off constantly, and just overall the difference has been mind-blowing! I would not be without now! After much research, I’ve loved Linen Bundle for the longest time, I think it’s absolutely gorgeous bedding, so soft and keeps me nice and cool as I overheat easily. However, it was very expensive and I really did not want to have to buy more but the group chat started again, so I caved and bought the green version. I wasn’t sure if it’d be the right green but moody dark velvets are the design inspiration and I definitely think it ticks that box! I then added these accent Gold Jungle Leaf Cushion Covers from Elizabeth Scarlett that I really love and feel brings in the gold more from the mirror and skincare oragniser too. Dressing Table & Other Furniture  Everything else from my dressing table to shelves are from IKEA, they didn’t need replacing at all. Instead, I simply vinyl-wrapped my desk to give it more of a dramatic look using a wrap that had a strong black marble print, as most of my room is black and white. I also wrapped my chrome wardrobe pole in a black vinyl too to finish the look, it’s very strong wrap though used on cars so it isn’t marking when you move the hangers which was really important. The skincare oraganiser is currently going viral on Tiktok, it’s low quality but at only £20 you really can’t complain. Loads of things fit in it and it looks great! The mirror is another Dunelm find, I did orignally want something black but I think this finishes the room perfectly, it’s the Vivian Wall Mirror at £80, but I got it for £65 in the sale. Storage boxes For my shelf boxes I already knew […]
