Exploring My Perfume Collection

This post has been a long time coming, exploring my perfume collection. Now you might be thinking, that’s far too many perfumes for one person, but I do share with my mum and I am super mindful of waste. Although I have kept a few too many perfumes this year from very generous PR giftings, I’ve also given a lot away. You might even notice that something you saw on my Instagram isn’t here, that’s because I only keep the fragrances I truly love and think I’d wear often. So let’s get into it! I tend to gravitate towards scents in the ‘oriental’ region, but that name has long been disliked (rightly so) and I recently found out via The Perfume Society, it’s being replaced with ‘Ambrée’. It’s taking a little while for the perfume houses to catch up but Ambrée fragrances tend to have notes like amber, sandalwood, and vanilla. I always describe them as deeper, more sensual fragrances. To give you more of an idea if you’ll like the same fragrances as me, here’s a little history and background. As a teenager, my first few perfumes were Vera Wang Princess, Ghost Midnight, and Christina Aguilera’s Eau de Parfum. Which are all vanilla, jasmine, and amber blends, so naturally my tastes have just evolved with the latest released perfumes. My favourite perfumes of all time have been Marc Jacobs Decadence and YSL Black Opium, for nearly a decade now, possibly over! So if you’ve ever smelt any of these and liked them, I know you will love my collection. Exploring My Perfume Collection YSL Black Opium One of my all-time favourite perfumes, I’ve tried many of the versions over the years but I can tell you with absolute certainty that the newest, and just so happens to be the strongest version, is the best. It’s 4 times as much vanilla and it just oozes luxury. YSL Black Opium is coffee, orange blossom, white musk, cedarwood, patchouli, peach, mandarin, and of course, vanilla. It’s by far one of the most beautiful scents ever. Currently, there are 5 different versions in order of intensity: Neon, Illicit Green, The Original, Extreme, and the best one Le Parfum. Jean Paul Gaultier Although YSL Black Opium has been my favourite for the better part of a decade, that’s because I hadn’t met Jean Paul Gaultier yet. This is now my current favourite and it’s the strongest, most delicious, most impressive smell ever. Everyone compliments this, well, everyone compliments all of these perfumes but you know what I mean. When I first tried Jean Paul Gaultier La Belle I wore it every single day, yep, I mean just around the house, to bed, I was utterly obsessed. I couldn’t get enough. An essential in my perfume collection now. Then along came Jean Paul Gaultier La Belle Le Parfum and as you’ve guessed it, it’s stronger, it’s more powerful, it’s quite literally insane. If you don’t like strong perfumes you will be mind blown by the intensity but I am just completely in love. So what’s the scent? Vanilla, pear, tonka bean, bergamot, amber. It seems the only difference between the Le Parfum version note-wise is jasmine, probably why I like it even more! Wondering who the gold is? The New Jean Paul Gaultier Divine and this is the exception to this post. This perfume is NOTHING like the rest. It’s so bizarre but one smell and I just really liked it! What makes it so weird? It’s a salt scent. I’m serious, salt, lily and meringue. It’s so unusual but there’s quite a warming floral feel to it, it’s very modern and I’d say a daytime fragrance, whereas the others in this post are mostly nighttime, fancy fragrances. Paco Rabanne I’ve smelt One Million and wasn’t a fan so I didn’t think Paco Rabanne was for me, but then I smelt Lady Million Fabulous and it’s quite simply, fabulous. I think because the original is missing the vanilla, that is what seems to be the problem looking at the notes. Lady Million Fabulous is vanilla, tonka bean, jasmine, mandarin oil, and pink pepper, so it’s a really beautiful blend. Paco Rabanne Olympea Blossom is one I really was not expecting to like as it’s the more fruitier one of the collection but I do find it to be a deeper floral. It’s peppery with vanilla, cashmere wood, and blackcurrant which probably adds to the deepness of it. It was actually my mum who really wanted to try Paco Rabanne Fame, simply because of the bottle being a robot. Unfortunately, she didn’t end up liking it whereas I really did! With mango, bergamot, jasmine, sandalwood, and of course, vanilla, it ticked my boxes! I do think Fabulous would be the only one I replace in my perfume collection though. Marc Jacobs Decadence I haven’t liked any of the other Marc Jacobs fragrances at all but I love Decadence. As the name suggests, it’s decadent! You smell luxurious, you smell expensive, you smell fancy wearing this. It’s now a lot harder to get hold of but thankfully not impossible and I got this as a present as it was half price. Marc Jacobs are very silly not to pay more attention to this fragrance, Daisy really isn’t better than this! It’s a very woody scent with jasmine, plum and saffron, a gorgeous scent. It’ll always be in my perfume collection. Dolce & Gabanna The Only One 2 I don’t know where I even got this fragrance from but I liked it so much that my friend bought me another bottle that I’ve finally opened. Described as an amber, vanilla fragrance with blackberry, red berries, ear, coffee, and tonka bean, you’re seeing the pattern here, right? It’s stunning, and so is the dark red bottle. By the looks of the notes I’d probably like the original but this one just got to me first! I always seem to like the later versions of perfumes. Mulger Alien Goddess […]
